RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 08-15-2015 Whoop EDIT: Changed up the idle pose, now I wanna think of a good way to animate it. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - recme - 08-15-2015 the anatomy is still weird for the idle. the shoulder closest to us is below his neck while his other shoulder is at his neck. he's also leaning forward. flip the sprite and this will become apparent. the left side of his head is also somewhat lacking of a cranium. id recommend to add more hair to just fix this and not make it look weird try experimenting with colors for a bit. the ones you currently have are dark and contain low contrast. this is very noticeable with the brown and blue you made. go a bit lighter. also, i took one frame of the running animation and made a drawing to show what the sprite should be going after imo, i think the head should be sideways during this animation because the head itself just looks glued on when its starting at a 3/4 view. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 08-17-2015 welp EDIT: New game thread: http://www.vg-resource.com/thread-27609-post-596554.html#pid596554 RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - recme - 08-17-2015 the neck is misplaced. you put it near his chin, which doesnt make sense at all. i found a picture of a young adult that may help you understand where it should be placed. i also strongly recommend that you make new legs/arms every frame instead of using the same arms/legs every two frames. think of it like this: if you didnt add shading in this sprite, it would look like a 2 frame animation instead of a 4 frame animation. actually, it looks like a two frame animation right now because of the low contrast of the colors. i already mentioned the color thing before, so im kinda baffled that you didnt even try to change the colors. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 08-18-2015 I changed the colours... I just forgot at that point to add them to the run. I slightly adjusted the neck. Keep in mind I'm not going for something realistic, I'm going for something that looks like a cartoon character with somewhat realistic anatomy and animations. I'm gonna change the arms and legs to be difficult though, especially now that he's running at a 2/4 angle, completely to the side, since both legs and arms do the exact same motion, just at different times, and if you did them both at the same time, it would be completely symetrical. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - recme - 08-18-2015 i made another slight edit of your idle. notice how the shoulders meet at the same height. it looks more natural and normal that way. also, made some slight edits to the palette, removing two colors due to them being completely useless to the whole sprite. i removed the banding on his foot, made more use of the darkest blue, (because only one pixel of it was being used...) and changed the positioning of his feet. also, dont use the "im making this cartoony, so screw anatomy" card unless youre really stylizing everything. it only shows that you are lazy and that you dont feel like changing it. youre making a human character. youre following all the rules about anatomy, except for placing his neck correctly? it doesnt seem to make sense. even though you tweaked it, it still looks incorrect. and about the symmetrical legs/arms... you can change it so that it doesnt look symmetrical. in the 4th frame of your animation, bring the legs closer together. you already made a right call with the arms, so it seems. i havent seen these new arms in animation yet, so i guess ill just wait for that. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 08-18-2015 NONONONONONONONO. I'm not trying to be lazy, I'm just trying to be sure that you guys know that I'm not trying to make it realistic-realistic. It's like a cartoon human, only a bit more accurate. I always misword crap and it never goes well. :/ RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 08-18-2015 note i didnt update everything yet. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 08-31-2015 Something I made of/for Shane Luis/Rerez RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 10-02-2015 I live! PBG stuff, just not for the game that I'm probably never gonna get any farther on. Also, and future updates may be JPG quality as I do not have access to my PC all the time, and I can no longer find a mobile app that uploads images to Imgur in a PNG format. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 10-18-2015 I'm not letting this thread die yet! Two new things: Falco Portrait ProJared's profile picture RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 10-23-2015 Two character designs I've been working with. Now, does anyone know any image hosting sites that can be used with mobile to upload as a PNG? The app I was using for Imgur was taken down from the app store before I upgraded to an iPhone. All of the other Imgur apps convert it to a JPG. *shivers* ...JPGs... It's just easier since I prefer spriting on the go, rather than having to wait to get computer access. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Valo - 10-24-2015 (10-23-2015, 06:11 PM)Joxon Wrote:I'm fairly sure you can just upload right to imgur from its mobile site on your preferred mobile browser, without using an external app. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 10-24-2015 You can, but that also converts it to a JPG. RE: Joxon's Sprite Thread that Lacks A Clever Title - Joxon - 11-02-2015 Imgur converted this to a JPG, but the quality is still the same fortunately. So, I made a few edits, and then I tried a crouch Sprite and a mugshot that has not been made through upscaling. I have no idea what I'm doing with thing project, it'll probably just be something I'm doing every now and then. |
