RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Codestar - 03-01-2010

Yeah Dex PMed me before about this competition, but I just never got around to talking with you about it. I'd more more than happy to judge. :>

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Sengir - 03-01-2010

Though do you think the judging method of 2 badges is acceptable?

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Codestar - 03-01-2010

Yeah, sounds good to me.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Mech - 03-01-2010

Pleeeeeeeease outlaw pre-made engines

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Sengir - 03-01-2010

It is in a way: you won't be able to win the bigger badge.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Xgoff - 03-02-2010

Quote:The Code Warrior badge will be given to whoever uses their language best. Say a C++ dev made hella sloppy and inefficient code and a Small Basic dev was able to keep their code short and sweet while still being effective, the badge would go to the Small Basic dev
im interested in seeing how you handle this given the number of languages you'd potentially have to consider, since "best", "efficient", "sloppy", and "short and sweet" code varies wildly between languages for various reasons

although most people are probably using gm anyway so yeah

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Sengir - 03-02-2010

Not really. While efficient code is different throughout various languages, efficient code is relatively universal.

Say a GM'er made a game with code that does what it needs to do with no "wasteful" code. He finds ways to do things that make the game run faster. Then a VB'er made a game with half-assed code that has unused variables, runs really slow, and does poorly in general.

It's a matter of how well you take advantage of what the language offers you.

This is a screenshot of a VERY early engine test version of my entry. See if you can figure out what it is!

Note that all graphics are subject to change. This is simply an early prototype.

Oh, and if anyone with GML experience still wants to team up, I'm willing to start on a new project that we both agree on.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Sengir - 03-03-2010

Just a reminder: you are able to use ripped/custom graphics from the Spriter's Resource so long as you include the ripper/spriter in the credits.

And note that graphics will not effect who gets the Code Warrior badge.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Mech - 03-03-2010

thank goodness because I can't sprite

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Kitsu - 03-03-2010

I think I have to drop out. I just don't have the time to commit to ANOTHER project.

EDIT: Actually, Viper, I'll team up with you, if it's allowed.
You design though, because if I design, you'd be left with little to do.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Vipershark - 03-03-2010

Sploder, are you experienced with GML?

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Kitsu - 03-04-2010

Yes.

Sample

Though I'm limited to GM6 and GM7.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Vipershark - 03-04-2010

That's fine. I have GM7. what's your AIM/MSN? We can talk more on there.

RE: Game Development Competition #1 - Kriven - 03-04-2010

Withdrawing, I have no will to do anything currently.
