I think what Iceman is trying to say is that the best critique is the kind made in a nice way.
Noobs can be quite sensitive, and easily threatened. So be patient and polite with them and you're bound to see better results.
If you give critique in a dickish manner there's a good chance that they won't accept it, and then a whole set of more problems begin.

You can give crits without sugar-coating your post OR being a dick.
example:
The sprites are pillow shaded, use a shading tutorial to help you out.
The colour choice is bad and needs more contrast.
Like i said tutorials are available on TSR.
