The coin seems to gradually lose its shape as it spins further from the viewer, it seems to fade from a circular shape and adopt the shape of a diamond at it's steepest view. I believe this could be adjusted by making the coins outline curve lower and flatter, like an smoothened U shape instead of a smoothened V shape. The steeper the rotation, the outline would become thinner and more straightened. I'm not the best judge at 8-bit graphics style; but until I can view the Mario in animation, they seem pretty well made. He's bending his elbows because he's getting ready to get out of the cloud and into battle. Try bending your arms like that on a table, its normal.
