RE: How do you rip Models - Domobot - 10-28-2010

A long while ago I got 3d Ripper to work for me... but I'm completely clueless as to what to do next.

This is all I had for some time until I messed around a bit and realized I was looking a skybox with the prize inside.

How do I remove whats not needed, and stretch it? Sorry if I sound completely nooby to this, but... I am.

@Kharaxel

No idea why that would happen, but I've heard of similar things occuring with PCSX2 rips. You may want to try ripping the textures with another program to see if they come out right then. Like say 3D Ripper DX if you're using 3D Via or vice versa. Just check the list of those kind of rippers I made for alternatives.

@Domobot

Well you may just to take a quick 3D basics tutorial in general, but basically you just want to delete the objects you don't want. This is comparitive to getting rid of the background of a sprite through print screen ripping. Once you've done that, you'll want to scale it along the y-axis.

Again, I'm no Blender master so I'm not the one to really ask for this stuff, but it shouldn't be hard to find out how to do this stuff through Google.

First, what platform are you ripping from by chance? I want to guess it by the looks it's from a PS2 game the way it seems all flat. Anywho, to get rid of the non important parts, go into vertex mode and start deleting vertices not related to the main model you want. I'm not entirely sure how to expand or shrink models in Blender, but do know how to "scale" them in 3D Max. Hope this helps out a little bit for you.

you guys want ps2 models you have to talk to the master

You sir, just made my day. I never knew someone actually was able to obtain models so clearly from just about any title. I went ahead and asked him on the games I was ripping from. Thank you viperzerofsx.

RE: How do you rip Models - viperzerofsx - 11-02-2010

the only games he can't get are compressed ones but most are not compressed

RE: How do you rip Models - Novax - 11-02-2010

Ah I see. I'm not entirely sure if the couple of Tales of games and the Xenosaga series is compressed or not. Episode I of Xenosaga might be since it was a dual layered game, but the other 2 were on 2 discs. Both were produced by Namco, who did the Soul Calibur series, in which he has ripped from Soul Calibur III.

he also did ace combat and is working on tekken 5 it should be ok I just wanted you to know in case.

I'm having the same problem when it comes to Birth By Sleep. I just devote most my free time to it. That or I'm at work which I've had all this week. Ninja

That information on the PS2 models is interesting but it will only get you the mesh without any UV map data or textures. So it's not all that helpful in my opinion.

RE: How do you rip Models - viperzerofsx - 11-04-2010

if you really want the models and have no other option like most ps2 games it good. also if its a game like Ace combat or a racing game then you might only need the mesh.

You'd be surprised how much textures can change a model. I won't say that that site is useless in an anyway shape or form, but as Zerox said it doesn't give a complete rip of the model really. I stated in the submission guidelines that I'd put up models without that stuff, but its generally not as usable as a model with proper UV's and textures. Otherwise I would have put up far more SA2 and SA1 models since there is a way to convert them directly, but its a similar case in that they don't come out with proper UV maps making the actual textures for them kinda useless.

oh yea I wasn't being defensive just saying you have to take what you can get. as for textures I think he had a way to get them but I don't know ill have to ask

RE: How do you rip Models - Novax - 11-05-2010

Aww, I didn't know about not being able to obtain the textures or UV maps. That does sadly makes it a bit harder. I can still obtain textures for the models with 3D Ripper DX, but the UV map would still be a bit of a nightmare on some models with all of the individual textures. I'll still keep it in thought as even the current method that keeps the UV map has the mesh somewhat destroyed that you have to fix manually anyways. Still, I hope maybe it will help out some.

While this is bumped, I'd just like to state that the tahaxan site is down.
