RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - LieutenantPie - 07-11-2010 I'm shocked that you for a brief moment thought I was going to give you money for you to do something you already do a lot for no reason. In a lot of the communities I use on a regular basis, requests get put in and accepted all the time. And that's for making ASM files from scratch and porting music by ear (which is like resequencing it and then porting it, which is already hard except the just put in code based on what they hear), but you guys are asking for money to edit sprites that already exist. Either way, I was trying to find a few people on this site specifically, but I can't seem to find any private messaging on this site. And if there is, it must be on the forums, not the actual site. I tried contacting the people who make custom SMK sprites on DeviantArt, but I have a new account. Basically, I'm shocked you're asking for money for something that seems so easy in comparison to things that people I know do for random people for no charge that are much more difficult, and I need to get a hold of some people on TheSpritersResource and I can't contact them. RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - LeleleleMAXIMUM - 07-11-2010 people who don't ask payment for their service generally SUCK at it it's okay if you don't pay, they're just saying that payment is incentive RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - Cobalt Blue - 07-11-2010 (07-11-2010, 01:57 AM)LieutenantPie Wrote: I'm shocked that you for a brief moment thought I was going to give you money for you to do something you already do a lot for no reason. RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - LieutenantPie - 07-11-2010 @Murderbeard: They don't suck at it. They're some of the best at what they do, and the do it for other people for free. @1UP+: Yeah. Someone did ask for payment. Kat said that if I want anyone to make sprites, I should pay them. I can't tell if that's supposed to mean that people will make sprites if I pay them, or if Kat's just pointing out that so far nobody is making sprites and they wouldn't unless I pay them. Also, the reason I said editing sprites is because people would be using them as a base and the Karts would most likely be the same as the originals. The only thing in the sprites that are different are the characters. I'm not sure if that falls under sprite editing, but it's close enough. Thanks for helping me figure out how to find those people, by the way. Hopefully at least one of them would be willing to help. RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - Cobalt Blue - 07-12-2010 you mean when kat said this (07-10-2010, 12:45 AM)Kat Wrote: Money is our Motivation so unless it is a really small simple thing or there is already plans to get it done anyway before the request (like ripping a sprite sheet or something) then it will not get done without money. let me make it easier since it seems you're, again, ignoring the whole issue. you have two options: 1)if you want these sprites done, you'll have to offer money in exchange. 2)if you expect that someone's good will does make these for you, then you'll have to wait for someone's good will to see those sprites done. anyway you're more of annoyance than anything. everything about how this request board works is explained HERE and i do encourage you and anyone else to not post again here unless you actually got someone or this thread is closed, for the sake of this request go away and die in peace. RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - Flare - 07-13-2010 Uh, whats happened to nice spriters. Yun, the best I could do, considering I couldn't put his pony tail in cause of the fact the sprite using a mirror effect to save on tiles. Not sure if you can change this? If you have proof that you can edit the racers into your custom ones then I will help - not a great deal I have a busy life - but I can help. RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - LieutenantPie - 07-13-2010 (07-13-2010, 05:32 PM)Flare Wrote: Uh, whats happened to nice spriters. That Yun sprite looks awesome! Unfortunately, the two pixels on top of his hat didn't fit. However, the kart floats just 1 pixel in the lowest tiles of the sprite, so I could move the entire sprite down one pixel and see what if it does anything to the sprite in-game. I'll worry about it later. Anyways, here is an image in the tile editor and an image in-game. I didn't bother with putting the palette in the game yet, but I have one for Yun saved. I'll replace the Mario one later. I was just focusing on getting it in the game. And for future reference, the maximum sprite size is 32x32 pixels (in the editor at least). I also found out that the only thing different about Luigi's sprite is his head and palette. He shares his body with Mario. Your Yun sprite's head fits perfectly within those boxes, so I guess whoever is making the Yang sprite just needs to recolor the body and make the head. :/ That sure saves a lot of time. About the ponytail issue, I'm not quite sure if I can make the front and back sprites asymmetrical because the only tiles in the game that don't contain graphics contain ROM data, which means I could seriously mess up the game if I tried. However, I could see if Lunar Expand works on Super Mario Kart (doubt it) and if it would add more tiles to the game. Again, I doubt it will. And even if it did, it would be difficult to make it asymmetrical, but I could give it a shot. EDIT: I expanded the ROM to 4 MB in SNEStuff, and it worked. There is a shitload of new, unused tiles. Like, 4 times as many at very least! I wouldn't advise making asymmetrical sprites just yet, but I'll let everyone know when and if I figure out how to make sure that those mirror tiles use some of the unused ones instead of mirroring themselves. And if I can figure that out, I might even be able to add several extra cups to the game and maybe even more tilesets! It would take a long time for me to figure out, but I might be able to pull it off. I hope I do! That would be so awesome! Asking people to make stuff that will take several days worth of work, and refusing to pay the favor by citing a lot of pretentious reasons (which always plays in favor of the requester and demonize the spriter) doesn't helps at all either. Quote:*larger/more complex requests(several characters, complete tilesets) are more likely to not be fulfilled. you can still give it a shot, but remember you depend purely on people's good will to help. good will means someone actually bothers and offers help for the sake of doing so, but in any case no one is forced to give two poops about the requests posted on this board, nor anyone making a request should expect or demand them to be fullfilled. why? as maneko cleverly pointed out, the whole point of this is to resort to the last option, wich is nothing but asking someone else to do you a favor. RE: Custom Sprites for a Super Mario Kart Team Hack - Koopaul - 07-14-2010 I know this, I'm just commenting on how 1UP believes that no one on these forums are "nice" and willing to take requests. You say it depends on people's good will. 1UP says there is no good will. So I said what's the point of these forums. Get it? |
