That one is probably the biggest offender, you could benefit from defining some petals. The second one has a cool design concept, but what is the light blue part supposed to be inspired by? It doesn't ring TAR PITS to me. Also, I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but it would be really neat if you could incorporate more of the "bones as accessory" theme to him. Take advantage of the different bone shapes to make him more interesting than just "blob". Maybe make shoulderpads out of skulls! (That one's kind of common, though...) The problems I see with the koalas (?) is that I don't see the theme. After I read your post explaining what they were, I sort of see what's going on? For example, with Ganguro as a theme, ganguro girls remind me of reverse pandas, with dark skin and white outlines around the eyes. Unfortunately, I can't even tell what aspects from goth lolis you're using, so I can't really comment on that I really like the Jinn fakemon, but I think the second form (if it's the final form) could use something more. Right now it's mostly a buffer version of the pre-evolution with a magic lamp. Maybe you can add some armlets? Some mist clouds at the spout of the lamp would also be pretty rad. I know someone who would definitely enjoy the Zepplock concept, heh. The face isn't oriented properly with respect to the body, although doing so would probably obscure the non-monocle eye. The hat (although it looks more like something that's actually from a blimp) is also improperly angled. Speaking of the monocle, it's very simplistic. Looking at some references on Google, I'd suggest adding the string that usually hangs from one (yeah, there's not really any place for it to go... but that shouldn't be a problem considering you're making a classy Zeppelin ) You might want to try just making it a thin black circle, it seems a bit on the thick side at this resolution. The mustache is cute (Why yes, I am planning to design some fakemon myself... ) RE: Some Fakemon - Vivvav - 12-05-2010 I would love to see these characters in an original game, because while they don't look like Pokémon, they're really, REALLY cool. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - megaMasquerain - 12-12-2010 I am currently working on something semi-fakemon related, but for time being, have this portrait WIP: Obviously it's a huge work in progress but I figured you guys could help point me in the right direction. (and yes I go by Tarenken on pixeljoint.) RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - x0_000 - 12-12-2010 Off the top of my head, the eyes (slanted) aren't aligned with the ears (mostly horizontal), and the anatomy of the neck area is very... suspect. I don't understand the shading on the collarbones, where is the light source? There's also no room for shoulders, unless the collarbones are x-raying through the body. I think the ear on the right should be closer to the eyes, it seems a bit far. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - Cobalt Blue - 12-12-2010 that portrait is the very reason why you sketch out things, analize them and then start to shade them. now you literally need to scrap it and start all over again. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - megaMasquerain - 12-12-2010 Ehh might as well scrap it wholly then. Don't bother critting it now (it tended to look a lot better before I added the hair and shading_ RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - megaMasquerain - 12-18-2010 Okay so since I have new stuff and it's been a few days I guess it's okay to double-post. Correct me if I'm wrong. Zeppelin man, Zeppelin man Zeppelin man evolves into Airship man updates to Zepplock, and his all-new evo. Design critique is what I'm really looking for at this stage but the shading on the flaps on the evo kinda bugs me. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - Cobalt Blue - 12-18-2010 i'm going to say it just before someone gets it all wrong. clearly thats not a pokemon, it just follows the "mechanic" of three steps evolution/progress. What about my designs makes them not Pokemon-y? I would like to hear constructive criticism rather than "bluh bluh not pokemon" - because the latter really does not help me at all. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - Gwen - 12-19-2010 just your design, the monocle, the top hat. None of it seems pokemonish at all. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - megaMasquerain - 12-19-2010 The top hat is a modified smokestack, and while I'm at it... What makes Zepplock's hat different from Honchkrow's? I can see the monocle being sort of over the top but I want to keep it, is there any way I could make it blend into the design more? Once again I want specifics, not "this is not a Pokemon". Tell me what I could do to make them look more like Pokemon. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - Gwen - 12-19-2010 Because its a natural part to his head, you can tell just by looking at it, thats his head with some stylings, whereas yours is a literal hat plopped on. RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - water dog - 12-19-2010 avoid material objects on your pokemon designs-- and if you are going to base it of an inanimate object, there is more to making it organic than plopping eyes on it. also it is worth it to mention that i do not see a central theme in your design. well, i do, but the two concepts combined don't make sense to me. zepplins/blimps/airships mixed with... gentlement? that combination doesn't make a lick of sense to me. maybe i'm missing somehting on yours, but usually combining two concepts into a pokemon design, there needs to be some relevant correlation. and i'm sure there instances in pokemon design where what i just said isn't true, but if you have any doubts about one i bet i could make the connection for you another note relateing to the last one pokemon are usually parodies of pre existing things, or based on pre existing things or myths. for example, blaziken is a parody on chicken fight matches. it's a fighting chicken. charmander is based on the ancient myth of salamanders being related to fire or some shit, i can't remember the myth itself, but it's real. Okay, I'm curious now, how would I go about making these two more organic? The two Pokemon lines I see as similar to the Zepplock line are Magnemite and Gear/Giaru, neither of which are very organic. I'm not trying to disprove you guys here, I'm just asking questions so I can get the clearest possible answer. This forum as a whole... it seems like I have to dig to get the kind of crit I want. Anyways. Regarding Zepplock's hat, is this any better? RE: Some Fakemon + Other stuff - Gwen - 12-19-2010 no, removing the outline over his forehead makes it no more natural. Study Honchkrows head, the brim is actually combover and the bump is his head. |
