RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Kriven - 12-27-2011

I wouldn't mind a Slime. He actually fits in kind of nicely.

If they swap out Twilight Princess for Skyward Sword, I'd definitely like to see TP and OoT alternates. (Although I love the Skyward Sword Zelda...)

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Kitsu - 12-27-2011

@Guycott, regarding your seeming conundrums over Fire Emblem characters, allow me to remind you that Fire Emblem 13 will be out before the next SSB is, meaning we will have more characters to discuss (or, at least, the Japanese will...); I'd personally prefer a magic user in order to get away from YET-ANOTHER-SWORDIE, but that will remain to be seen. Also, regarding FE-related ATs, they could pull something like just having it summon a random generic unit class (and to take the laziness yet another step, they could just use the GBA sprites or something).

I also have to say I myself would not be particularly upset by the appearance of Slime; it'd be great to have such an odd character!

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Azure-Tranquility - 12-27-2011

Yeah, Slime would be fun. His method of fighting will surprise us, I'm sure. (If he's in)

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Kriven - 12-27-2011

On the topic of Fire Emblem rep: While a magician class character would be cool, in the scope of the Brawl roster, Zelda is already "the" mage. If they wanted a truly fresh playstyle, I would have to say a lancer is the most unique option.

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Azure-Tranquility - 12-27-2011

Didn't people want Michaia(The chick from Radiant Dawn) in Brawl? She could be a good candidate, with Lyn demoted to Assist Trophy.

If Roy can't be a character, maybe he can return as an assist trophy, and Dr. Mario could be an AT as well! Mewtwo should return as a character though, I dunno wth they decided to not include him. :/

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Kriven - 12-27-2011

I would honestly love if Micaiah made playable, because I have some unnatural love for the character that a majority of the fanbase doesn't share, but I also feel like not using one of the other weapons types (lances, axes, bows, hell, even the thieves) would be a bit of a waste. A berserker might be cool, but I can't really think of any significant ones.

I remember reading something about Sothe almost making it as both playable character and assist trophy for Brawl, so that's also something to think about.

Remember only one character(s) was chosen because it would make an interesting fighting style. It was Ice Climbers and only them. Characters are usually chosen by:

Their significance to a series.
Their significance to Nintendo.
Their popularity.
Game promotion.

Well, if we're going by this, King Hippo has significance being Punch-Out's closest thing to a villain. Punch-Out as a whole is only mildly popular, but King Hippo is a very memorable character from the game. In fact, in that Captain N show, Mac was nowhere to be seen, yet Hippo was a character.

Krystal, while not very significant to the series, could be a very interesting character moveset-wise. The roster is low on both staff characters, and female characters, so she kills two birds in one stone.

Ridley... oh man where do I begin? Ridley is Samus' Bowser, Ganondorf, and Dark Matter all rolled into one. Ridley represents the side of Nintendo villainy rarely seen in their series: The cynical, heartless type. Ridley would kill a baby metroid just to get a piece of Samus, and that's no joke. Kidnap the princess? Ridley would rape the princess, demolish the castle, and shit on the remains of the henchmen, all without thinking twice. And if they defeat his body? Fuck that, he's got a million more bodies ready for use, be it Omega, Metal, or Robotic, Ridley ain't picky.

Slime and Layton represent third party franchises that have been published by Nintendo recently, mainly in the US. It's possible Nintendo is trying to gain ownership of Layton, but not a guarantee. You could say Slime & Layton represent the growing connection(lol) between third parties and Nintendo.

Little Mac is the star of Punch-Out!!, which is a nes series much more popular then the likes of Kid Icarus or Ice Climber. It got a recent wii makeover that managed to garner decent enough reception, and it sold well enough to become a Nintendo Select, even. That, and looking at Mac, he was MADE for Brawlin'.

King K. Rool is the villain of the Donkey Kong series, gaining popularity in the Donkey Kong Country trilogy by donning various costumes, each with their own tools and powers useful for some kong smashin'. While much more like Bowser than Ganondorf or Ridley, K. Rool has shown to be a threat in his own right, even if all he's really done is kidnap monkies and steal their bananas. His absence in Donkey Kong Country Returns should be a huge motivation for this character to be "redeemed", and what better place than Smash Bros.?

Saki is the main character of the original Sin & Punishment, which wasen't a popular game until the original was uploaded to the Wii Virtual Console. Sakurai even stated in the Dojo's assist trophy page that Saki "fit right in" with all of the other fighters.

Ghirahim... I dunno. We already have Ganondorf, so it would be odd to add Ghirahim, because we'd have 6 zelda characters(Link, Sheik, Zelda, Ganondorf, Toon Link, and Ghirahim). He does represent "new" Zelda games, and would be a better alternative than say, "Skyward Link".

Zoroark... well use whatever reasoning Lucario had for being in Brawl. Who knows, maybe Lucario won't be replaced? (lol)

Palutena... obviously, with the new Kid Icarus being developed by Sakurai, he would want to showcase "his" characters, much like the Kirby series in Brawl. She could focus on her bow, and also be another new female character alongside Krystal.

Shulk is the main character of Xenoblade. His inclusion could also represent Monolith Soft being part of Nintendo now. Hopefully they throw in some Baten Kaitos Assist Trophies and Stickers in there as well, s'all I'm gonna say.

Mega Man was born and perfected on the original NES, mother fuckers. Mega Man owes his creation to Nintendo, and as such, it would be criminal not to eventually host him as a guest character on Smash Bros. which celebrates Nintendo & gaming as a whole.

(Personally though, K. Rool and Krystal would be adding to already overpopulated series, and Zoroark would be pointless if he's just a modified Lucario. Everyone else though I'd welcome with open arms, and I'd love to play as Krystal and K. Rool if they do get added)

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Kriven - 12-27-2011

Krystal's potential for interesting gameplay, at least by Smash standards, isn't just limited to her staff. Combining the magic and staff martial arts styles with her penchant for more advanced weaponry, as well as her psychic abilities? Krystal has potential for such a varied moveset and play style, that we're almost guaranteed to see her be "Blue Fox with a Purple Land Master."

About Monolith Soft: Do they own Xenosaga, or does Namco? If Monolith does, than I see it far more likely to include KOS-MOS than Shulk.

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Azure-Tranquility - 12-27-2011

Xenosaga doesn't have any games on a Nintendo system. Meanwhile, Xenoblade is Wii exclusive and published by Nintendo to boot.

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Koopaul - 12-27-2011

Samurai Goroh is Captain Falcon's rival and one of the original F-Zero racers. He is very important in the franchise and the next logical choice for another F-Zero rep. He's skilled with the blade, making him one of the few racers with a potential fighting style.

I suppose your gonna say F-Zero doesn't need another rep hm? Well how do you know what games deserve another rep?

Do they need lots of games?
F-Zero has just as many games as Star Fox.

Do they need Nintendo's respect?
F-Zero was given it's own TV series!

That is more than most Nintendo franchises.

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Gors - 12-27-2011

demanding Simon Belmont since forever

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Specularion Thread - Dazz - 12-27-2011

Not only that but Captain Falcon has become a core internet character now, and I think that they hope that after their Falcon Punch success that they will have earned fans of the series. I'm incredibly surprised that there has been no F-Zero game on the Wii...

also: Captain N. That is all.

RE: Super Smash Bros. Wii-U/3DS Speculation Thread - Gors - 12-27-2011

also finally fixed this thread's title. It was bugging me a lot.
