All those years of hard work put to waste. Wow, it just gets worse. A shame how the programmer(s?) can practically destroy a project if vindictive enough. RE: The Sonic Resource - Keychain - 01-28-2013 Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't even that bad, it's just the concept of showering him in unneeded violence and weapons was bad. The gameplay and story wasn't half-bad, and the game gave you the option to determine your bosses and endings via the sides you take. Something more games really need. RE: The Sonic Resource - Kriven - 01-28-2013 I also liked Shadow, but I didn't mind the attempted maturity as much. For me it was the gameplay that ruined an otherwise good game. RE: The Sonic Resource - DioShiba - 01-28-2013 I didn't actually mind the game play of shadow much. Although the attempt at trying to have a "serious" story took too bad of a turn. I get that Shadow was a mature character to begin with but most of the seriousness was completely overshadowed by how silly sonic games get story wise (especially the scenes with Chaotix holy shit) Never actually played sonic 06, but the story was shit from what I've seen. Had it actually gone though full development, I'm sure it'd be praised just as much as the two adventure games. It can't really be counted because it's seriously just THAT unfinished. Shadow may have been rushed as well, but it wasn't obvious beta code sold as a full product. Maybe not, but I remember the Shadow the Hedgehog engine being pretty bad in it's own right. Which would make sense, seeing as it was the Sonic Heroes engine with some modifications. RE: The Sonic Resource - Helmo - 01-30-2013 sonic heroes...i remember falling through the floor for no reason RE: The Sonic Resource - Lemonray - 01-30-2013 Yes, randomly falling through the floor is an expected occurance in Sonic Heroes. Though not quite as common as Knuckle's punch attack clipping harmlessly through enemies which then kill you or the homing attack either throwing you off the stage or just randomly failing when you need it most, it is a defining feature of the engine. When Shadow the Hedgehog was made, they managed to reduce the frequency at which these glitches would occur with the possible exception of the homing attack, which still killed me countless times. In fact, I'd bet that were the glitches and bad physics corrected, Shadow's game would have been the easiest in the series, because I can count on one hand how many times I died to some element that was actually intended to harm the player. The story undid itself, so I say it's perfect. RE: The Sonic Resource - TomGuycott - 01-31-2013 One aspect of many things that makes 06 unbearably bad is the awkward mixture of "realistic" (I use the term lightly because most of the graphics regarding this look like shit) humans, weird gothic magic and monsters, and the goofy, cartoony Sonic cast from previous games. Also the insertion of not just one, but two superfluous hedgehog characters (Despite the fact that Mephiles or whatever the hell he's named never shows up again). It was easy to see what the game WANTED to be in terms of gameplay, but the glitches and shoddy controls make the thing virtually unplayable compared to other Sonic games. And somehow it's still considered canon by Sega's standards. See Sonic Generations. Also regarding how bad Sonic 06's story is lets bear in mind that the majority of stories in sonic games are out-right silly. I mean completely outright. Given that 06 tried to be serious I'm willing to bet just how serious it is doesn't even matter granted that you know the silliness of sonic overshadows that. If you wanted a completely serious Sonic game, then the cast would have less pointless characters doing nothing at all (Elise, Silver, Blaze, Mephilis, and even Omega). Some of the pointless characters who have potential given more usefulness to the story and gameplay itself (Amy, Shadow, Rouge, Knuckles and Tails). And keep the story with Sonic from stopping Eggman to do something completely terrible with the chaos emeralds, not just rule the world or whatever. No secret "final" boss that turns out to be the main villain of the game bullshit ether, I want a full fledged battle between Sonic and Eggman. It seems hard but granted that you realize that nothing is impossible you can make a completely serious story out of something so bluntly obvious and silly. It'd even make for a better reboot if you look at how some of the characters like Shadow can be re-conned into something else specifically for the story. Was anyone able to see it? I couldn't figure out how to access the livestream, and I was wondering if there's any info from Sonic Team. |
