I was thinking Sudowoodo. But well, he's a rock tree. I think it would be quite a stretch to say he was a stick insect... as he's not really bug like.

Know what I'd love to see? A stick insect that was a grass/bug type that was a tall stalk of bamboo and an insect.

Actually I didn't think know Wooper was based on that, oh well.

Let's see... a goliath beetle.

Nintendo is from Japan yet They haven't made a pokemon based off of a Tanooki. Tongue

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - Saltonara - 07-28-2012

This kinda looks like a Tanooki.

Thats a raccoon. Tongue

Also Does it funcion like the shapeshifting Tanooki? Tongue

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - Kriven - 07-28-2012

Considering real tannooki don't shapeshift, and are extremely similar to raccoons, zaggy counts.

Psyduck is not a playtpus. He's a baby duckling. All yellow and stuff.

I don't think they've done wallabies. Or leeches. Or fleas.

Edit: or mosquitoes.

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - TomGuycott - 07-28-2012

There's no point of another shapeshifter when Ditto exists. And the idea of a more animalistic creature that takes the shape of other creatures is already taken by Zoroark. Thus having one just for the sake of making it exactly like the actual mythical creature is redundant and pointless.

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - Kriven - 07-28-2012

Is Zoroark a tanooki? o-o

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - Kami - 07-28-2012

I thoight Zoroark was a wolf more or less.

I was about to say Yanma but then I remembered Yanma's a dragonfly.

He just has that Illusion ability that makes him appear as other pokemon. Given he has that and ditto can transform into other pokemon fully, having a third one just for the sake of being loyal to the tanuki folklore is not a good idea without having good reasoning.

Also Tom I disagree with you about a squid being a redundant version of Tentacruel.
If they pulled off a squid well, and made it an interesting type of squid like the Vampire squid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_squid)
They could make a Dark/Water type combination, and give it an interesting and unique moveset.

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - TomGuycott - 07-28-2012

I'm not saying that it CAN'T be done, but having a water-type squid just to have a squid is not that interesting. Even a Dark/Water type is a little redundant given there's already Crawdaunt and Sharpedo.

RE: Name Any animal that Pokemon never did. - Kriven - 07-28-2012

You also need to consider the design and natural role and characterization of such a creature.

And a vampire squid is potentially one bad ass sucker.
