RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - E-Man - 11-21-2013

Point taken, Tom. Only the most popular YouTube users are able to live off of YouTube alone, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does help pay some of the bills. If that's the case, then not everyone has to fully commit to spending time in front of a grill, or being forced to become a tie-wearing drone for some pointy headed boss.

To be perfectly honest, aside from the fact that you need a Google+ account and can no longer reply to comments posted prior to the update, the new posting system isn't that bad, especially because you can now edit your posts.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - E-Man - 11-21-2013

At least that's one good thing about the new comment system. Even though this is extremely unlikely, Google might change the comment system again to iron out the rest of the bugs in it (or change it completely to upset even more users). Besides, it's not like all the changes done to YouTube have ever lasted forever (i.e. layouts keep getting replaced).

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - Kriven - 11-21-2013

I still don't understand how you think people making a living off YouTube aren't "working". It takes a lot of work to put out the kind of content that would enable a person to pay the bills from YouTube. A lot.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - E-Man - 11-22-2013

Don't get me wrong. I know how much work it takes to scratch out a decent video (unless you're one of those idiots who are unfunny, yet you get a lot of views and subscribers anyway). It's just that compared to other jobs, some people might not see making YouTube videos as actually working and just assume that.

I'm only making a general statement because I know some parents (or at least the ones from TV shows) would rather have their kid work for some sweaty fat guy who is quick to give out pink slips instead of actually following their dreams. Fortunately, not all parents are realistically like that.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - Kriven - 11-22-2013

Why would you word your posts in ways that reflect the opinions of other people? That makes it seem like it's your opinion.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - E-Man - 11-22-2013

Point taken. In retrospect, I probably should have chose my words a bit more carefully instead of saying something like "real jobs" in the first place. It would have saved everyone a lot of confusion.

Not exactly the most trivial thing ever, but ohey, Youtube (or rather, Google) finally added that feature I've been wanting for forever
[Image: o5ng.png]
IT'S ABOUT FUCKING TIME :V

Seriously, though, it's great that Youtube finally has a comment editing feature, which I've been wanting since I got on there. Now if only Google would remove Google+...

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - Kriven - 11-24-2013

I don't know who else runs a YouTube channel, but it's really weird to get e-mails from YouTube when I get new subscribers, but e-mails from G+ when those new subscribers comment on anything.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - ThomasSpeedrunner - 11-24-2013

I have a Youtube channel and I've never gotten an email like that. Then again, I only have, like, 5 or 6 subs, so :V

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - Jaden1291 the Toad - 12-01-2013

This made me wanna go inactive on YouTube forever, unless I'm watching videos...
I also dislike how they integrate Google Plus into the comments system. This can cause everyone to accidentally show their real identity through comments. Sad
Also, coined a new term for the integration of Google Plus into YouTube: GoogleTube.

However, on the bright side, they finally added edit comments system, plus spam is reduced. It's about time.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - ImSpidey2 - 12-10-2013

This is why I quit YouTube and went onto DeviantART. Because of the unnecessary changes that were never needed in the first place.

Now YT made me hate Google+.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - BullockDS - 12-10-2013

Seems like Google's gonna be cracking down on monetization of videos soon.

This new approval system for monetization basically means that unless you own 100% of the content in your videos, you won't get a dime starting January 2014. Commentary (e.g. Let's Plays) over videogame footage? Using bits of someone else's video to make a video response? Kiss your money goodbye! Some may say that this is a way to encourage as much originality as possible, but fuck that noise; that's restrictive and de-incentivizing as shit, not to mention severely devaluing what is legitimately original content just because it happens to also coexist with non-original content. Though this doesn't personally screw me over, this will fuck up a lot of people on YT that I respect and admire, so y'know what?

I'm finally fucking done. I'm migrating to DailyMotion (and hopefully I'll actually start doing stuff there).

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - puggsoy - 12-10-2013

If this actually happens, and Google doesn't listen to the millions of complaints I'm sure we'll hear, then I think a mass migration is actually pretty likely. A large amount of the most successful YouTubers, literally the people that make YouTube what it is, are LPers, and this would make an enormous impact on them. PewDiePie, the guy with the most subscribers, will have pretty much all of his videos un-monetized. YogsCast, Jesse Cox, all of those essentially live off of YouTube.

I don't think this will affect me much. Most videos I watch are either 100% original, or not monetized. I am subscribed to Schmoyoho though, and my favourite kinds of videos by them are actually songifications of other peoples' videos or news stories (as opposed to their original songs).

This is actually something I was thinking about when I posted, but you phrased it way better than I could've.

Also, something I thought of: if there are LPers super hesitant to ditch a chance at YT monetization, they might be able pull a Rifftrax and only put their commentary on YouTube and upload their gameplay footage on Dailymotion/Vimeo/etc, allowing for their commentary to still receive monetization... granted it's a bit out-of-the-way, but considering the forthcoming limitations, it'd be better than nothing.
