RE: 2017 Work/Critque Thread - Virtuaboy123 - 04-15-2017 Sorry to double post but I need some feed back on this. Mostly on how to spice it up So for the Battle hub I'd like to show the players faces. However that sacrifices the number of players I'd have in the party. I could make the Faces smaller and perhaps reduce the name size to only 4 characters... It's not a huge issues and in fact makes it play more like fallout (one human follower). Characters you meet will have their own side quest and perhaps you get to play as them only in certain situations. RE: 2017 Work/Critque Thread - Lexou Duck - 04-24-2017 Wow, not much activity around here eh so i got a few things to say/suggest - hopefully it hasn't been long enough that you've made up your mind about this first of all - what is that screen resolution? 272x208 ? kinda strange it seems you're trying to do NES screen resolution, in which case i get the 208 height (224 minus one row of tiles on the top and bottom) so i take it this 272 screen you give is a mistake - i put it back at 256 width second of all, your tiles are all over the place - try to work a simple tileset without too many tiles (on an actual NES you would have to also fit the alphabet characters on one 256-tile set, so not taking up too many tiles for the menu is important) here's my suggestion: now judging by the commands at the bottom i now realise that this is supposed to be a battle screen, and here it doesn't leave much to be seen i'm thinking it could be like this during your turn, and then the top bar reduces to only show HP for each of your characters when it's the enemy's turn RE: 2017 Work/Critque Thread - x0_000 - 04-24-2017 Is the big bounding box around the player characters really necessary? It seems like it just eats up space without any visual benefit. Next thing you could do is make HP/MP/LV a single tile instead of two letters to save horizontal space. You should also consider the value of having the portraits at that large size all the time. You could do it Fire Emblem style and have a smaller portrait in the top area, and for the active character put the large portrait at the bottom when the player is deciding their action. You could even just use a 2x4 tile around the eyes to get a widescreen closeup effect. The action menu could also be flattened depending on how complex you want to make the options, like how pokemon arranges them in a 2x2 fashion. In Lexou's example you can put some data in the vertical gaps between portraits, like the level if it's not going to be triple digit (you'll get the space for the 4th character if you remove the big bounding box.) Edit: Okay I messed around with the mockup and making the HP/MP/LV single tiles is not feasible, but otherwise here's a summary of my suggestions in image format: RE: 2017 Work/Critque Thread - Virtuaboy123 - 04-26-2017 Thanks both of you. @Lexou Duck The RPG Maker I'm using has a funky resolution for the screen, 545 X 416 I believe (who came up with that?). I think it can be edited however. I haven't looked into ways to change it as of yet. The mock up you gave I like, but it may block some of the enemies I'll have on screen. So doing it that way I'd reduce the character faces as x0_000 suggested. @x0_000 I like the idea of reduced character images on the battlescreen. I was planning on making it horizontally squished however. I'll measure all of my options. RE: 2017 Work/Critque Thread - x0_000 - 04-26-2017 That could work! I'm a bit wary about how the size difference with the numbers on screen. I don't know if using icons would be useful, my gut feeling is that at that point you could probably just remove the HP/MP part without any confusion. RE: 2017 Work/Critque Thread - Virtuaboy123 - 06-02-2017 Being an adult sucks! Start a new job in a week However made this custom Slot Machine for my Dragon Quest fan game. And here are a few enemies I made These will have to be resized however... And nothing new with my other proposed game. |
