RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 02-20-2022
Yet some more games on the list down:
ABC Monday Night Football
Brett Hull Hockey 95
Champions World Class Soccer
RPM Racing
At this rate, we should have all the games on the site by at least 5 years time. Yet that pesky Yoshi's Island General Sprites 2 sheet probably will be still on there (Seriously though it should be replaced, good by early-mid 2000s standards though). Honestly though didn't expect Angelique to be almost completely ripped. Out of nowhere, some great rips.
Just wondering regarding PGA Tour Golf how to order the courses because they are done via Mode 7. Having all the holes in a course on a sheet would look very messy due to the different sizes and lots of empty space. The other option would be having a hole per sheet, would look clean but would also have a lot of sheets, some big but some smaller. Which one is better?
Also if anyone is curious, did a personal progress report below:
Progress Report:
David Crane's Amazing Tennis - Looked into this one, the players are made of pieces.
ESPN Sunday Night Football - Was ripping through this then the emulator crashed on me...
F1 ROC: Race of Champions - Currently ripping the player car. Most of it is done but checking through the pitting sprites.
Jack Nicklaus Golf - Looked into this one. The golfer and the font are rippable via the ROM but the rest isn't.
Lamborghini American Challenge - Managed to find the sprites for the Diablo, Player 2 car (AFAIK) and the rivals. Not yet on a sheet as I'm doing a bit more research. Finding the manual would be great.
Michael Andretti's Indy Car Challenge - Looked into this one and managed to get as far as ripping some of the Indy car. Not yet done due to tile alignment issues. It's one of those where a tile isn't quite right and you have to manually adjust, so you would say move about 3/4 pixels higher or lower/left/right. Encountered that a lot in my time... Very annoying.
NCAA Football - Was ripping through this then the emulator crashed on me... Judging by the progress, it got up to the alt palette stage so I would have to go through the palettes.
Newman Hass IndyCar - Looked into this one as of writing and will be ripping the backgrounds. Yay!
NFL Football - This is one of those where the teams show up on the field like some of the Madden games. So I would have to go through each team to finish off the field sheet. Currently have Bills vs Cowboys.
NHL Stanley Cup - See the above reason. Since it is a Sculptured Software sports game, would have to fiddle around to show the backgrounds like I did for Tony Moala Soccer and Untitled NFL Football. It has an upper background and a Mode 7 one.
Operation Europe - No progress since last time... Did discover though that the Japanese version is on a larger cartridge (12 instead of 10Mbit) so will look into that.
Pebble Beach Golf Links - Looked into this one. The ROM is mostly compressed and only loads a pose on whatever's on screen. Did rip the font though...
PGA Tour Golf - Still trying to work out how to order the courses. Having all the holes in a course on a sheet would look very messy due to the different sizes. Unlike the Genesis version, the courses are in Mode 7. The golfer is also done in pieces and tile alignment issues.
Redline F1 Racer - The player cars are rippable via the ROM. Yay! Yet the CPU controlled cars are compressed. Boo! (Have to be done another way) The Mode 7 backgrounds only load up whatever is on screen, this seems to be very common for racing games that are not on the site (e.g. F1 ROC).
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4 - No progress.
Super Drift Out - Looked into this one. The cars are rippable but it is the case of getting the right palette. Mode 7 rotating top down racing games are not good for my health...
Super Off Road: The Baja - Looked into this one. The cars are rippable but it is the case of getting the right palette. Yet the cars lookalike...
Suzuka 8 Hours - Really need motivation for this one... Wanted to rip the backgrounds but they have some issues displaying on the two emulators. Like the Sculptured Software sports games, it has a Mode 7 and a regular background handled by the scanlines. So worked on the bikes instead, did rip a little then lost interest... Unlike the arcade version, don't really enjoy the SNES version and the view makes me poorly playing it.
Tommy Moe's Winter Extreme: Skiing and Snowboarding - Tried ripping the snowboarder but there's issues. Tile alignment issues and the ROM layout is literally garbage, sprite, garbage, sprite. Managed to rip 14 sprites before giving up and one of those looked unused.
Top Gear 2 - Ripped the speech bubbles.
Tecmo Super Bowl - Both this and the Genesis version have been attempted, the latter is more complete. It was the field side animations that throwed me off. For the Genesis version, it was the palettes for the cheerleaders.
Wings 2 - Looked into this one. Can rip the planes but it does seem a bit all over the place in the ROM where there's a plane then another frame somewhere else.
Not on the list:
Drift King - Looked into this one. The cars are rippable but it is the case of getting the right palette. Can't remember if it was 2 or 94, one is completely in Japanese while the other at least has English menus.
F1 World Championship Edition - (looks on my hard drive) Oh wow... Nearly done a sheet. Just needs icons and it'll be on the site.
Finalset - Ripped the portraits but currently deciding whether to have them as portraits or the menu screens where they came from. This is due to unlike other tennis games, the game is split. The people in the World Tour mode are completely different than on the Single/Multiplayer modes.
Final Stretch - Looked into this one. The cars are rippable but it is the case of getting the right palette, the cars look similar to my failing eyes. This is actually the spiritual sequel to Redline F1 Racer, same developer but different publisher.
Muhammad Ali Boxing - Had two WIP sheets, one for the title and one for the ring announcer. Due to the very unfinished state of the game, looked to see if the rest of the game is rippable and well... it's tricky especially the ring.
Rally: The Final Round of the World Rally Championship aka Network Q Rally - Ripped the font, just needs an icon. See if there's anything else before uploading.
Shanghai: The Great Wall - Had a look but wonder why there are two sets of mah-jong tiles in the ROM? Will be ripping it at some point because I actually like Shanghai (mah-jong solitaire) games. Not good but for a puzzle game can make some progress and can complete some boards which is more than said for other puzzle games (coughPuyoPuyocough).
Super Formation Soccer 96 - Had a sheet incomplete for years, since about 4 years ago! Reason? It's one of those animated Mode 7 backgrounds. I would have to use something like Animget on a Background Viewer as you can't rip from the ROM. This was originally for the World Cup project and this year happens to be another event...
Winter Gold - Ripped the font, just need to put onto a sheet. As a note, this is a Super FX2 game and apparently the game is streamed (not sure whether its done via video as a cleverly designed FMV game or a framebuffer, it is a demoscene game after all) so not much can be ripped from this game outside of the font and the player icons.
Looked at, not doing (or very low chance):
Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing - A lowish framerate NASCAR styled game. Lots of background stadium elements that take up quite a bit of the ROM space.
Super High Impact - Wondered why I did the Genesis version instead? Unlike that version, it only loads up whatever part of the field is on screen and how it scrolls is a bit weird on a background viewer. Like you have a bit of the screen then shows a part of the screen somewhere else but not done in a clean way. Similar issue to some soccer games actually...
Super Slap Shot - The ROM is compressed, only so much is loaded into the game. To make matters worse, from a not good developer who did Batman: Revenge of the Joker on the Genesis.

Found the PAL version manual, not sure if it helps: https://archive.org/details/lamborghini-american-challenge-pal/mode/2up
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 02-23-2022
Thanks, it didn't exactly help on what I was looking for (e.g. car models of Player 2 and the rivals, 2P mode is barely mentioned in the manual) but that Super Scope mode is interesting though and wouldn't have founded out by playing the game. Should be enough for me going ahead in terms of ripping, can always edit once its done if I do manage to find out.
On the spur of the moment, ripped from GT Racing. Will be ripping more cars once the list gets down a bit. Interestingly the ROM shows sprites for a bike yet it's a car racing game so I wonder if its an unlockable or a left over from something else?

Ahaha, that damn Yoshi sheet will haunt me forever.
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Ton - 02-27-2022
The OP should be updated with the new rips!
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Magma MK-II - 02-27-2022
You can risk out Spriggan Powered and Super Dunk Star.
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 02-27-2022
Cross off Jack Nicklaus Golf, Newman Hass IndyCar and Race Drivin', would have done more games if it wasn't for health problems.
Still despite that managed to rip pretty much all of the 2D graphics from Race Drivin'.
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Ton - 02-28-2022
You're killing these sports games. Thanks so much for that!
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 03-20-2022
Yeah I have... Still slugging it out with more sports games to cross off the list:
*Barkley Shut Up and Jam!
*Cal Ripken Jr. Baseball
*Championship Pool
*NCAA Football
*Pro Quarterback
*Super Soccer Champ
*Suzuka 8 Hours
*Tecmo Super Baseball
At least managed to do NCAA Football off the to-do list that was there for months (from last September, had to completely rerip though due to palette reasons), the backgrounds to Suzuka 8 Hours by refreshing the tilemap viewer like crazy (otherwise you get a status bar that you get 90-95% of the time), took ages to do the portraits on Sculptured Software Tecmo Super Baseball and Pro Quarterback is just bad. Ever heard of sprite breakup on a SNES game? Well that game has it and don't recall any other SNES game doing that. Also working on Pro Sport Hockey, just need to find the alt palettes before that gets uploaded.
Oh and remembered when I said that I was going through the Japanese version of Operation Europe? Well... The bigger ROM was true and at first, it was to do with the text icons but then discovered right at the end of the ROM, the Japanese version has an ending. That's right, an ending with a plane. Ripping this will take some time along with its Genesis counterpart as it is not exactly the right time to rip from a war themed game at the moment and will be ready when it is ready (same thing for Micro Machines Military on the Mega Drive, ripped a bit already but not the right time to continue until it gets more comfortable). Besides with the backlog of sports and racing games for both the SNES and the Genesis to get down first, it should have cleared up.

RE: SNES Full Library Project - Ton - 03-31-2022
Updated the first post!
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 04-02-2022
Yet even more sports games to get down:
*Bulls vs Blazers and the NBA Playoffs
*Jammit
*Jimmy Connors Pro Tennis Tour
*Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball
*PGA Tour Golf
Thanks to PGA Tour Golf, it has become my most ripped game. Had to rip that via BizHawk since bsnes-plus has a palette bug. (checks amount of SNES games left in total minus prototypes and hacks). Nearly 1000 left... Ouch...
Even going through quite a lot of sports games, the next step according to the list is war/war themed in some way/strategy games and as mentioned don't feel comfortable doing them at the moment even though Carrier Aces wouldn't take too long. It is getting to that point where the remaining games are going to be ones where they are my weakest genres (puzzle and strategy) as well as a bunch of untranslated Japanese games that may or may not even get past the menus. A shame since one of them caught my eye and thought since when were Ami, Makoto and Naru (or Amy, Lita and Molly) from Sailor Moon in a mahjong game?
Anyway currently working on as of typing in terms of fresh games NCAA Final Four Basketball (the court has plenty of animation giving me a bit of a headache), Super Slam Dunk (it reminds me of TV Sports Basketball on the TurboGrafx, need to get the other palettes), Kawasaki Superbike Challenge (palettes), Hole in One Golf and of course finish off what had already done that would push under the 1000 game left mark. Thinking about ripping the other Nigel Mansell game and maybe Kat's Run but usually in terms of my plans, often rip the game out of the blue anyway. Boot up a game on an emulator and see how it goes tends to be my ripping pattern. Really glad that bsnes-plus and BizHawk exist, I honestly wouldn't have made it this far into the project without them and would have only did a few games, not like 60+. Before those two emulators, it was much harder SNES ripping. So thanks to the emulation authors for making this possible.
If anyone else wants to rip SNES games, they can do. Just because have taken quite a lot on, it doesn't mean that it would put you off ripping. There are plenty of good SNES or licensed games still available.
Oh just a question, regarding the Japanese made baseball games that also got US versions (e.g. Super Bases Loaded "series", Super Battle Up is related to the Famista series). Are they all going to be separate Japanese and US versions (Korean in the case of Hanguk Pro Yagu) or is it going to be case by case?
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 04-24-2022
Hi, I'm Nigel Mansell with yet another racing game.
Yep. Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing is ripped. Just the backgrounds for now, might come back for more.
Outside of that game, the following are also ripped:
David Crane's Amazing Tennis
GP-1
GP-1: Part II
Wheel of Fortune
Wheel of Fortune Deluxe
Took three attempts to rip the Malaysia background on GP-1 Part 2 as the game kept glitching (first time there were no backgrounds and the palette was glitched, the second was just the sky background). As an added bonus since Zico Soccer is ripped, nearly all of the letters in the sports genre are now filled. Yay. Just have to find a Y, same for the racing.
Regarding Lamborghini American Challenge. Some good news, the portraits are done and most of the player car sprites are too. The issue are the cars themselves. This is the Diablo Roadster. As you can see this is how the sprites are set up in the ROM after arranging the tiles. Before uploading on here, is it okay? (and yes, I've just noticed a mistake on the title, it'll be fixed on the site) Something bugs me but that's how it appears due to the limitations of the SNES tile format.
Still wondering about the Japanese sports games and how they should be handled as there are a couple of sports games that are either ripped or reserved.
Oh and here's another progress report:
Ripping all the remaining SNES titles is going to be almost impossible so instead focusing on a smaller amount of games. Could rip all of the title screens and that applies for most systems (assuming that the game has one) but... would rather rip something else on top. Sadly it means that Ton's list wouldn't be filled however it will mean in the long run, a good chunk of the overall library will be ripped.
Along those lines, might show some WIPs in this thread if anyone wants.
Ripped but waiting for a decision.
J.League Super Soccer - The game is the Japanese version of Virtual Soccer but waiting to see if it should be with that game or another entry. Outside of a few things (mainly title screen, teams, text), the game is more or less the same.
Nearly ripped, waiting for palettes:
Pro Sports Hockey
Super Slam Dunk
Nearly there
Battle Grand Prix - Just needs the sparks on the title screen. Won't be ripping any more due to finding vertical racing games that isn't the old school Monaco GP or some of the Micro Machines series very hard to play.
HAL's Hole in One Golf - The Mode 7 previews are ripped however have yet to be put onto sheets. The hole in one/albatross/eagle screens are ripped but wondering whether the Japanese version (Jumbo Ozaki's Hole in One) are the same. Do not like overhead golf games...
Sporting News Baseball - This is nearly ready to be on the site, just needs the fountain animation complete. Its Japanese counterpart series Super Power League is on the site but I really need to check to see if all 4 games use the same stadiums. As a note, SNB is a cut down version of Super Power League 2 having only 3 stadiums and still has its kanji unused but also shares a bit of code from the first game.
Progressing Nicely:
Full Throttle Racing - Backgrounds are going along fine.
Michael Andretti's IndyCar Challenge - Decided to put the IndyCar on hold and instead rip the backgrounds. Already found two finds that are interesting. The Phoenix background is misaligned. Also MicroProse is credited on one of the backgrounds. AFAIK Bullet Proof Software published this game so were MicroProse originally going to publish this game?
Red Line F-1 Racer - The same reason as above and already started on the first background. Both are by Genki, this was actually Genki's first racer, the first of many.
Super Real Mahjong IV
Issues:
NBA All-Star Challenge - This is nearly there however there is an issue regarding the crowd for the court. Unlike the Genesis version, there is more animation. Also there is also a prototype that needs to be checked. I could upload the portraits for now but rather wanted something else too.
Sterling Sharpe: End 2 End - Working on the field and discovered that the team names aren't quite the same when flipped meaning that I would have to rip from both sides (Atlanta was how I found out). Meaning that I would have to re-rip some of the team names...
Sports Illustrated - The football field suffers from an in game palette issue where the people can change palette depending where and when you are in the game. Another issue is the scrolling meaning that there aren't any guarantees getting a complete field.
Space Football One on One - The maps have a randomized animation that appears around the border. Once that's figured out, it should be plane sailing.
Various Soccer Games (Kick Off/Super Kick Off, World League Soccer, Manchester United) - Noticed regarding the scrolling that it loads bits but not in a logical way. Also due to the scrolling, there isn't a guarantee that I would get all of the crowd. It seems to be a common issue with games on the SNES regarding background scrolling. Manchester United had a bit better luck due to the smaller pitch though.
Turn and Burn: No-Fly Zone - The Mode 7 backgrounds either palette cycle or change tiles in Mission 4.
Tecmo Super Bowl - As mentioned it was the cheerleaders. No progress made along with the Genesis version since November.
Very Slow Progress:
ESPN Sunday Night NFL - No progress since early December.
F1 ROC - Same progress as last time, seems to have stopped since when I finished the courses of Super Off Road.
F1 Grand Prix 3 - My second earliest abandoned sheet dating back to December 2018. Just looked at it and they are portraits. Can't remember why I stopped ripping since quite a lot was done. Must have been something serious since they weren't even on Sprite Database like a lot of rips at the time...
Finalset - No progress since late February however decided to split the portraits into two sheets due to the different graphical styles. Other games have taken priority...
Kawasaki Superbike Challenge - Stopped at mid-March with no progress since. Genesis version took priority at the time.
George Foreman's KO Boxing - Some of the referee is ripped but nothing has been done since early April.
Madden 97/98 - No progress since mid November. These were Team Logos.
NFL Football - No progress since late September. Not too long since the project started...
NHL Stanley Cup - Ditto.
Super Formation Soccer 96 - Nothing for 3 and a half years...
Top Gear 2 - No progress since late December. Ouch... As mentioned the speech bubble is fully done but the car isn't. Since it is a Gremlin racer, might look into the backgrounds. If rippable, then it'll be brought forward.
Other:
Super Bases Loaded 2 - Waiting regarding the split between JP, KOR and US versions.
Super Bases Loaded 3 - Waiting regarding the split between JP and US versions.
Super Batter Up - Ditto.
Operation Europe - Once the backlog clears a bit, it will begin. It isn't the case of procrastination however rather the case of events. It is the reason why the racing games have taken a bit of priority however with the racing games thinning out and the sports games down (seriously, most of the games have been racing or sports), probably will have some time.
Planning to Rip:
Carrier Aces - Icon is already on the site
Emmitt Smith Football
F1 ROC 2
Kat's Run
Micro Machines 2 - Turbo Tournament (PAL)
Olivia's Mystery (JPN)
Shanghai 3 (JPN)
Shanghai: The Great Wall (JPN)
The next step will be going through the Japanese only games and see if there are any more. Probably will look into the remaining PAL exclusives as well. There are roughly 20 left.
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Ton - 04-26-2022
Updated! Thank you!
What do you need me to do for the Bases Loaded differences? Are they do different that we can't put them all in the same section?
RE: SNES Full Library Project - Yawackhary - 05-04-2022
Had a feeling that it would happen... Explaining it all is going to take a lot and makes matters worse is that stuff like this isn't documented online.
Super Bases Loaded 1 is simple enough. Both SBL and Super Professional Baseball share a lot with each other so it makes sense to have it as the same section. It's the usual change the title screen, a few graphics, language, possibly fix the odd bug.
Super Bases Loaded 2, I'm not sure and did a double check just to be safe. In Japan, it is its own game (Super 3D Baseball, called that due to Mode 7) that is not part of a series (the US didn't get Super Professional Baseball 2) and one of the few Korean adapted SNES games.
The changes that I'm aware of are:
-Different title screens and obviously the language
-Super 3D Baseball has licensed teams, Hanguk Pro Yagu also has but for the Korean league but Super Bases Loaded 2 are all made up so they all get different icons.
-Graphical changes towards the three stadiums in all three versions to reflect measurements, setting and language. This is a lot more than Extra Innings and some of it is hard to notice. Pro Yagu doesn't have a dome stadium unlike the other two.
-S3B and HPY have a continuous theme while SBL2 is the odd jingle.
Personally it would be all in the same section because while they are changes, the bulk of the game is the same.
Super Bases Loaded 3 however is a lot and I mean a lot of changes where the only similarity is that they both use the same engine. Think along the lines of say Shatterhand. The irony is that this is the only one where in Japan, it is part of their Moero series, the same series that the NES Bases Loaded games were based off. Interestingly, this is one of the few SNES games in both versions that uses the hi-res mode for the pitching/batting, the same mode that is in RPM Racing and the menus for Trials of Mana.
-Firstly SBL 3 uses a 16Mb cartridge while Super Moero uses 12Mb, this is the only documented change online.
-Moero has all the Japanese teams with their team logos while SBL3 is only semi-licensed. No logos and just state names however the players are licensed.
-Both do however have 3 styles of stadium...
-Menus are different but function the same.
-SBL3 has an intro with the players and playing the national theme, Moero doesn't.
-SBL3 has the players walking to the field to take their hit, Moero doesn't.
-Moero has a continuous theme playing while SBL3 has jingles, one of them being the Addams Family.
-Even someone who is really bad at baseball games can get a homerun with Ken Griffey Jr. with a bit of luck, Moero doesn't have Ken Griffey Jr.
The most important thing, a lot of different graphics! (have to link it since it doesn't see to show up otherwise...)
Super Bases Loaded 3
Taking the Bat (Pitcher/Batter View, Dome)
Field (Dome)
Pitcher/Batter View (Field)
Field
Super Moero!! Pro Yakyuu
Pitcher/Batter View (Dome)
Field (Dome)
Pitcher/Batter View (Field)
Field
This is why I asked for help... Looking it at alone, the graphic changes between Super Bases Loaded 3 and Super Moero!! Pro Yakyuu are enough where a game icon wouldn't match between the two versions.
While we're here, Super Batter Up and Super Famista also have completely different graphics despite using the same engine. SBU has a more realistic graphic style while Super Famista uses an evolved style of RBI Baseball (that is a Famista game in Japan).
