RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - Koopaul - 08-19-2013 The word "Final Smash" makes it seem like its a characters last resort... but it can be obtained at any time. But the real thing that bugged me about the Final Smash is that its only as effective as the size of the stage. On Battlefield, Luigi's FS is completely unavoidable! On a stage like New Pork City, you'd be lucky if that FS hits anyone. I discovered that there are just 5 types of Final Smashes anyway. 1. Directly attack the opponents in front of you. Link, Meta Knight, Captain Falcon. 2. Shoot a beam, wave, or yourself forward. Mario, Samus, Marth. 3. Make the area around yourself dangerous to be around. Kirby, Jigglypuff, Luigi. 4. Transform yourself into something. Yoshi, Wario, Pikachu. 5. Fill the arena with hazards. Pit, Ness, Ice Climbers. Smash is about adapting to multiple environments and situations at a moment's notice. To use Final Smashes to any degree in a larger arena, you have to learn when the best time to use it and what the best spot to use it at would be. You can't just jam the special button and obliterate everybody. (Not that I'm saying anybody in this thread does that, but just as a comparison to how other fighters have handled similar attack types.) RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - senjen - 08-19-2013 @ kriven yeah final smashes do use strategy and timing in order to be effective most fighters i brawled against would usually use it instantly and i would dodge it. Also found this awesome fan video of a fan wanting Geno in smash RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - SchAlternate - 08-19-2013 (08-19-2013, 01:56 PM)Kriven Wrote: I never really saw the situational effectiveness of the Final Smash as a flaw (same for any attack or character or item, actually), because Smash isn't the straight forward fighter a lot of players seem to want it to be. It'd be nice if at least there was an option to be able to use Final Smashes without the need of a Smash Ball. Well, in the way they're obtained at least, I don't actually want them to be obligatory. Lol. The japanese term for "Final Smash" is actually "Final Trump Card". RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - Baegal - 08-19-2013 I like the Final Smash because it can turn the tables very easily. With FS you usually don't suffer from one sided battles like in every other fighting game, which really just rewards you for pressing buttons quickly. It's pretty balanced too! Weaker characters (as in less power) like Ness, Jigglypuff, and Olimar have some pretty powerful Final Smashes, which helps quite a bit. No battle that has only one person attacking the whole time is ever fun. RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - Koopaul - 08-20-2013 Jigglypuff's Final Smash is pretty pathetic in most stages. If it isn't some place small like Battlefield then it's almost impossible to use it successfully. She puffs up so slowly that its easy for anyone to move a safe distance away. Even if someone does come in contact with Jigglypuff's Puff Up there's a good chance they'll survive. Olimar's Final Smash is completely unavoidable and require no skill or timing on Olimar's part. No matter what stage you do this Final Smash on, or where Olimar decides to use the move, its always guaranteed to do some damage. I still feel Final Smashes could have been done better. In Smash Bros, if a move is easy to avoid, its probably really powerful. If a move is hard to avoid, its probably weaker. This makes things balanced. Well that not the case with the Final Smash. There will be a FS that is harder to use or easy to avoid... but its just as strong as a FS that is easy to use or unavoidable. Or in the case of Jigglypuff, easy to avoid and WEAKER than most FS. Awesome as it would be to have Geno in the next smash, I have a feeling it would be very doubtful it would happen unless Nintendo gets the permission needed to use him. (Or, if nintendo just buys the rights to all the Super Mario RPG characters like they should have a long time ago) RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - TomGuycott - 08-20-2013 Yes, Puff Up isn't as overpowered as many other final smashes, but clearly you don't have the foresight to use it in a corner or on a ledge where it would maximize its effectiveness. Many of the Brawl FSes should be considered for retooling for the new games. If anything, Jigglypuff is an example of a decent FS, one that makes you think and strategize rather than handing you instant KOs. RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - NICKtendo DS - 08-20-2013 Metroid Other M Pyrosphere stage confirmed for Wii U version. The stage itself, I cannot care less. However, Ridley will be showng his face (unless Sakurai refers to some other "enemy from the past") sabotaging the brawl. When I play Smash Bros., 99% of the playtime is put into multiplayer. Hence why I like it that he is now a stage gimmick rather than a boss. He was cool as a boss and all, but I've interacted with Ultimate Chimera dozen times more (not the one you want to interact with, ever). It's also better than an Assist Trophy as his appearance is more controlled and not random. I like that they make her super bouncy so people are tossed away. I also think the Metroid stage is pretty neat. At least it breaks the pattern on past Metroid stages. On that note, am I the only one who liked the Brinstar Depths stage in Melee? No, you are not! They should let that stage return so we have a Ridley stage and a Kraid stage. I do hope for a Metroid Fusion stage for the 3DS version. A Serris or Nightmare cameo would be cool.
