RE: Final Fantasy XIII - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 03-08-2010

christ, discussing which final fantasies is better is never going to go good.

Also, FF12 takes place before FFT. not after.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - TomGuycott - 03-08-2010

Geez, you guys act as if certain Final Fantasy games are better based on fact rather than opinion. I mean, here's a list right now about what I think about the good and bad games IN MY OPINION, and I can guarentee I can get 60% of you butthurt just by saying so.

FFI: Classic
FFII and III: Never fully played ANY version.
FFIV: Liked how it killed off a lot of people, overall it was good
FFV: I have yet to play through PROPERLY (I gamesharked on the anthologies version because I didn't have a lot of time to play it then), but I liked the story and characters
FFVI: Godlike. Nostalgic. My Childhood.
FFVII: Overrated, but a good game, if a little emo. But no matter what anybody says, the amnesia-obsessed storylines didn't start here, they started several games before it.
FFVIII: I never liked this one. It was OKAY, but I never even finished the damn thing, I was that bored.
FFIX: Best one on the playstation in every way.
FFX: Felt kinda cheesy, but I attribute that to everyone dressing like they're at the beach (which they were, but still, not everyone needed a half-exposed chest, did they?), and it being the first game with voice acting. I bet if this one was released with no voice acting and 2-D sprites in the SNES era, this thing would be considered a masterpiece by lots of people.
FFXI: Never tried
FFXII: Not as bad as lots of haters say, but I do understand their qualms considering its take on Ivalice and the battle system. Overall though, I was enjoying it. (I abruptly stopped halfway through, going back again sometime soon). I especially like fighting Marks, that's lots of fun.
FF Tactics: I love the grim, medieval feel of it. It's also a solid tactical based RPG. I play more for the story though. (I hate the fact that my disc was broken because of unknown means. Cry )
FFTA: Never played the first one, but I am partway through the second. Overall I have a lot of fun playing it... I just don't know how to fit it into FF's Ivalice canon. I don't think about it too much though.

Anyone agree? Disagree? Butthurt?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion except for Sonic 4 love that game till you've played it and have found evidence as to why it's bad. Also Mr.bones over there with his talk of two different Ivalices, like that matters when you bring spin off to the franchise. I bought the game regardless, playing it, thoughts later.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Ton - 03-09-2010

You know, I don't know why I put 7 so high. *reevaluates list*

1. FF6
2. FF4
3. FF9
4. FF5
5. FF7
6. FF8
7. FF10
8. FF3
9. FF12
10. FF1
11. FF2

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Shawn - 03-09-2010

I THINK FF6 IS OVERRATED

FF5 IS SUPERIOR.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Ton - 03-09-2010

FF5 has some of the best gameplay in the series, no doubt. But the story and characterization are VERY weak. FF6, 4, and 9 have a great mix of gameplay, characterization, and story.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - DanKen - 03-09-2010

I loved 4 and i am picking up XIII in 20 mins!!!

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Shawn - 03-09-2010

ff5 has my favourite gameplay and job system
ff9 has the best characters, music and story

ff4 and 6 are both great in all aspects but they dont really excell in any of them. ff9 used its characters really effectively(excusing quina) and had a nice friendship/ comrade feel, and always had a well composed song to fit with the scene, my personal favourite being the scene whee you control beatrix and steiner and protect alexandria while a remix of beatrix' theme is playing in the bg.

i think ill wait for a remake of ff5 and 6 until i can really judge them entirely. ff4ds and ff9 were both in 3d so it wasnt as limited and they could do a lot more with it. ff6 in 3d would be incredible so ill be waiting for that!!

althought i think ff5 in 3d is coming before it.

either way, 4, 5, 6 and 9 are the best ones, with 7 following closely behind them.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Omegajak - 03-09-2010

With 6 hours under my belt all the here/nay-say is bull. Play the game for yourself and decide for yourself. In my eyes it's Final Fantasy, and it's fun. Peace, Caccoon won't save itself.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 03-09-2010

Okay so FFXIII is officially fucking awesome.
There is one thing I love about this game that I think is kind of interesting:
There is absolutely nothing in it specifically for the fans. The only Chocobo is in a black dude's hair, I haven't seen a Cid yet. There's almost all new music, The battle system is great.

Honestly I think this is probably the best Final Fantasy (and possibly the best RPG) I've ever played.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Gwen - 03-10-2010

Damnit, I really want to buy this now, but its either this or Pokemon Soul Silver, and I already pre ordered Soul Silver. But I'm definitely getting this in April somehow.

Sooooooo......Hi-Five?

Lil' Chocobo is probably the games best character and most likely the series best comic foil.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Vipershark - 03-10-2010

gonna wait until the price drops a bit, but I'm definitely getting this on 360

it should be cheaper at target within a month or so, or at the very least have a price reduction sale within the first two weeks

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - DanKen - 03-10-2010

So far I love the game, especially Sahz's dialogue.

RE: Final Fantasy XIII - Chutzpar - 03-10-2010

Alright, serious question
are any of the main characters in this rounded, or are they the usual FF one-dimensional bores?
(And angst or a convoluted backstory != complicated character, btw)

Because while I like a lot of the game mechanics in previous FF games, the characters in most of the previous games have been so damned flat or outright unlikable that I find it difficult to stick with them for long.

The closest I've seen to character development in a final fantasy game was when Lulu from FF10 went from being kind of bitchy to not particularly bitchy. That is literally it.

I actually really want to like the final fantasy games because the worlds are nicely designed, but that's it. The characters don't add to the depth at all. They're like windowdressing.

I wouldn't describe it as polishing a turd so much as polishing a GAPING VOID.
