Being told by someone unaffected that the situation me and my friends are in is less important or silly is incredibly fucking aggravating and insensitive. At any rate, I've been catching up on the news reports I missed, and there's been additional detail on the initial shooting. http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/2011/aug/08/london-riots-third-night-live?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487 Quote:Expedited forensic tests are being carried out on the handgun found at the scene of Duggan's fatal shooting and bullets fired by the police. It is understood that ballistics experts have established that the firearm being carried in the minicab was a lethal weapon. It was a handgun which once in its life had not been capable of firing – a replica, a starting pistol or a collector's weapon. But the firearm had been converted – as many illegal firearms purchased on the street are – in order to carry live ammunition. The officer has quite clearly broken protocol, even if he might have done so with good intentions. At this point, the case might be buried over the other crimes caused by the riots. There's been rumour and suggestion of getting water cannons and even the goddamn army involved, and I honestly hope that's not true. If they do, the injury and fatality count's gonna climb quickly - for rioters, police, and general citizens. In better news, there are now flashmobs starting that are cleaning up the riot zones: It's a bit short-sighted, but it's nice that there are people who want to help. http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-08/09/london-clean-up RE: North London Riots - BobbyLala - 08-09-2011 this is sickening http://audioboo.fm/boos/434411-leana-hosea-speaks-to-croydon-looters-on-bbcworldservice "We're just showing the rich people who own businesses we can do what we want" No you idiot, rich people own big companies, you're targeting corner shops for the free alcohol. The man who runs the corner shop is not likely to be rich, if he was , he wouldnt have to get up at 5am every morning and work a 14+ hour day to support his family. You have no justification. Scum. You're both warned. Back on topic. Finally some news on the initial shooting! I didn't realize the rioting would get this bad. I really don't hope they have to get the water cannons or the army out. Unfortunately this situation is highlighting some issues that Grooveman, PatientZero and Tachikoma amongst others have already mentioned. It makes me sad that these resulted in a series of riots, and it reminds me of the riots that occurred in France a few years ago. I hope this turns for the best RE: North London Riots - PatientZero - 08-09-2011 Last night a 26 year old man was shot in his car by a rioter, he died today. I don't think it needs to be said, but any semblance of the protest against the police shooting has now been well and truly lost. RE: North London Riots - BobbyLala - 08-09-2011 there was never any relation between most of riots in london to the police shooting, only the initially peaceful protests in Tottenham were linked to the shooting in any way, shape or form. all the rest are just fuckwits who want to go out, damage some stuff, have a fight, drink lots all for the sake of it it's a chavesty of all that the tottenham protests initially stood for RE: North London Riots - Rosencrantz - 08-09-2011 On another note, there have been a lot of flash mobs recently in my city just (large) groups of kids randomly attacking innocent people out of nowhere on the streets From what I can tell, people are trying to correlate these mobs to the London riots, justifying it with the unrest of the youths here. While, admittedly, that's just one huge hasty generalization, the fact of the matter is there isn't much stopping the kids here from organizing their massive groups to cause a riot in Center City. And I'm a little afraid that it might happen in the very near future :C RE: North London Riots - DioShiba - 08-09-2011 At first I thought this was something similar to the LA riots in 1992. now with the way it looks like, it's a bunch of hooligans continuing a fight for no real cause. EDIT: Look at what happened in Woolwich last night. To be honest, I feel bad for the police. The fact these people are taking control is sickening. RE: North London Riots - Rakia - 08-09-2011 I'm sure some of you have seen this. Cunts. It's hard to watch any videos related to these events. EDIT: Omg that video you posted. They're like even more retarded zombies. RE: North London Riots - DioShiba - 08-09-2011 At this point the water cannon seems pretty inevitable. (this is given the circumstances I am hearing about.) Looking at the news right now on CNN, protesters are physically attack the police, people are claiming mark was black (edit:Not quite sure I heard this right, I'm watching it from my TV at the moment.) and there is several other bullshit going on. this isn't even about the guy that got shot anymore, that's one thing for sure. Aside from the water cannon I'm also hearing things about tear gas as well (same source) RE: North London Riots - tykel - 08-09-2011 Makes me happy I'm in France for the summer -- hopefully peace and order will be reestablished by October for Uni :/ RE: North London Riots - DioShiba - 08-09-2011 (08-09-2011, 12:45 PM)tykel Wrote: Makes me happy I'm in France for the summer okay, so it's clearly alright to brag that you're in a different country. good job child, we should be more concerned about where we are in the world and not give a shit about how bad this is. After all it's not like this shit can't happen in the country of ________ right? RE: North London Riots - Chris2Balls [:B] - 08-09-2011 That's not what tykel meant. RE: North London Riots - DioShiba - 08-09-2011 still, I don't think that it's right to say your in a different country just because of what's happening in another. Chances are a riot like this could happen in France. You hope that a riot just subsides for your own selfish needs? I detest the attitude of people like you.
