neither are going to happen on this board honey, if you only post what was updated while being concise about it. no one gives a damn about walls of texts when they're just fillers.

feel free to update the title with a new /#/ every time you post something new, but even then thats redundant, considering each thread is automatically bumbped every time you post on it. and people will certainly quote you if your update gets posted on a previous page.

just do it, for the best of both sides.

itt making things bloody absurdly too complicated for a trivial thing such as simply posting new content on a topic

RE: Update- 0002 Pokemon Stadium 3: Vintage World Cup (Tiers of Tears new basis) - Toastfighter - 08-15-2011

A few things,

Having him standing will not work that well visually, for a simple change, I just suggest tucking the feet backwards, and if you feel they need an animation, have them give a cutesy half-kick every once in awhile

Another thing I notice is that the parts don't seem to be attached to the body, they moove too freely up and down, try having them pivot around one point on the body, which should be kept a static image in animation, but feel free to move the body's location.

The body looks much rounder than the actual pokemon's does, try flattening it out a bit, and he also seems to usually face going upwards, you don't need to, but it'l make it more like the official sprites.

For the antennae, in all the pokemon sprites, they use a darker color for the blue part of them, where as you use lighter colors, try changing it to a darker shade and see if it looks more defined.

Also, one big thing is that the drawing style changes with almost each body part, the eyes look like they were made of clay, the body and antennae look brighter and less outlined than everywhere else, and the hands look like they were handdrawn, and the best style of the three. If I were you, I'd switch to the style of the arms, they look a bit 2d, but they look the best done of all of them.

You know what's funny about this comment?
This is the most detailed yet down to earth critique I've ever gotten.
And here's the nice part, no other notes such as annoying habit complaints, no complaints about methods, no "fix this part of your posts", no update woes, and most importantly, it focuses on things I can COMPLETELY understand about Chinchou and nothing else. I had no clue what readability meant until I asked my friend about it, but this makes a lot of good, clean sense to me.
You're doing a lot better than I was at less than 20 posts, could I ask you personally to continue your wonderful critiques as I go?
In exchange, once Chinchou is just right, I'll build a custom animation of any Pokemon you like.

Also, I wanted to apologize to many of you for how today has been going, (or yesterday if you're farther west than EST)

But from now on, can we all just agree to focus on Chinchou when posting?
Unless if it's a compliment or something important that absolutely must change, it's not really my concern from here on out, I'm here to build Pokemon, not get Posting Tips 101.

Thank You.

PS- Toast, thank you for making my night a lot better. I owe ya one Pokemon after Chinchou, don't forget!

This is my constant problem with you.

Every single time.

Granted, insulting shit and coming off as an asshole is one thing,

but being a pompous asshat doesn't make you seem to not want to attract negativity.

You've gotten good crit. here prior to Toaster.

You'd get more crit. for your Chinchou if you just only talked,

about the Chinchou.

Instead you make extremely long walls of text about how you perform organization along with continuing to reply to posts you extremely disagree or just repeating what someone else said.

Chinchou still looks like a vector.
It's extremely messy.

You've got no black outline on the body, but the arm has one, which isn't looking good (it's clashing). Then pixels jut out of the sides because it's the effect of making this vector, which easily would have had a 100+ colours, into this 14 colour raster. Any rotating raster has weird pixels on the side.

It's not the best strategy for making sprites.

It's like re-sizing a picture,
and then just reducing your colours.

I'm aware this how you've always done it,

but it's really time for a change.

Your light sources are also off in most areas, because some areas have a different light source than another.

It's really just a wreck right now, but that's only because of your approach to pixel art.

RE: Pokemon Stadium 3 Project- Current Focus: Chinchou - [robo9] - 08-15-2011

I know you said you don't want "Posting tips 101," buuuuut

You should really stop complaining. Making posts about how everyone is "picking on you about the way you post." It's completely fine If you keep it to yourself, but pointing out things like that won't make you an friends, and nor will it change the way people are responding to you. I've seen people treated alot more harshly on this forum whenever the started out, Kyrtuck, The King of Bad Posters, myself, and etc. Whenever someone criticizes your posting, they're doing it because it's either annoying or a habit frowned upon, and they're keeping you from being shunned, ridiculed, and later exiled.

But posting about that was "the best crit you've received yet and the rest are personal attacks on your postmanship" is just rude and overall douchish.

Since this is a resized vector, I'm curious to see what the original sized vector looks like. I assume it's not as compressed as the resized version, and out of curiosity I kind of wonder what it looks like.

Unless I'm missing the point on how resized vectors are made, Im just inferring.

RE: Pokemon Stadium 3 Project- Current Focus: Chinchou - Chris2Balls [:B] - 08-15-2011

Mhhh, I've also noticed you could improve on Chinchou's proportions: the antennae are longer in the refs, the eyes are bigger and the crosses follow the same axis, and the antennae dangle forward, in front on Chinchou, but not necessarily in its face.
The reason why its eyes seem odd is because they don't move in coordination with the mouth, and the body doesn't change shape as Chinchou lifts its head up.

Regarding the first post: it's still huge, you could hide obsolete updates with spoiler tags.
You can label spoilers like this:
Code:
[spoiler=insert label here]here i am[/spoiler]

@MarvelFan The point of a signature is to sign a post, so PRIMAL MORON could in fact put that phrase in his signature.
If you find signatures annoying and repetitive, then you might want to consider hiding posts and removing your own. :p

You know what's funny about what's above the line? I wrote it on the previous page, but it couldn't display because of a quote, hence my empty post. At least Toastfighter highlighted the points I wanted to make and more.
However, I disagree with his choice of style, because the arm is flat, unlike the rest. Stick to the current style.
I also think the animation could be slower, it looks like Chinchou's going to have a heart attack.

Here's a quick sketch of my conception of Chinchou in 3d:
Basically showing why the eyes' lines don't look straight in the ref, and the rest is to give an idea of proportion/where everything is.

Also, thanks for dissing the people who did help previously in your thread.

RE: Pokemon Stadium 3 Project- Current Focus: Chinchou - PRIMAL MORON - 08-16-2011

The're nothing on Earth I could say to redeem myself here.
Probably even finishing Chinchou wouldn't really say much.
I'm sorry it came to this, since I really am at fault...
But so far this topic has been causing more trouble than it's worth...
I mean I only got what, 1 animation that's nowhere near completion after 3 days and I'm already getting ready to pull my hair out.

I'll rethink whether this topic is worth it or not in the morning, but so far, I pretty much feel I've been wasting your time and effort over this...

I'll come back here in the morning, and then decide what to do.

RE: Pokemon Stadium 3 Project- Current Focus: Chinchou - Chris2Balls [:B] - 08-16-2011

Do you know why it's taken you over three days over one animation? Because you're actually improving on it. You've obviously needed it.
Unless you have a deadline (ie for professional reasons), the amount of time it takes to do this doesn't matter, it's getting it done well that's important.

I feel insulted that you're considering this topic worthless, because if you delete it you're pretty much throwing away the feedback we've given you.

So it's up to you: you could be as a prolific as you were before posting this topic and do mediocre sprites, or you could be far less prolific but do better sprites.

RE: Pokemon Stadium 3 Project- Current Focus: Chinchou - Cobalt Blue - 08-16-2011

perhaps you'd go faster if we didn't criticize you and just focused on kissing your rear, my dear.

RE: PM's General Spriting topic - PRIMAL MORON - 08-17-2011

This topic is now more general and will focus on all of my spriting projects, each with it's own archive of updates.

I just updated Chinchou v8-b to match that stadium style almost perfectly.

[Image: chinchou-idle%20v8-b.png][Image: chinchou%20stadium%202.png]

Also, to make it easier for examples to be provided, I'm giving some trusted members a sprite part kit.
What this will do is allow them to show and demonstrate the parts and how to adjust or assemble them to show me if need be what they mean,
I find it easier to work with visuals than just guess at what I'm doing, so if you guys are willing to try this, it'll make future critiques a lot easier.
If not, that's fine, too...
but then doesn't that mean my sprite could be stolen and assembled elsewhere?
These ones wont, they'll be built with just shapes, no shading, no styling, nothing pretty or interesting to steal.
Just parts.

I'm only handing out one kit with the effects, and it'll be to the person I trust the most. (not saying names)

By v10, this should be perfect, or close enough to it.

RE: PM's General Spriting topic - Sketchasaurus - 08-17-2011

This latest "sprite" has way too many sheets, it seems as though you've simply resized part of a Chinchou screenshot and mirrored it to make it symmetrical.

I don't see how that's a problem,
This was completely assembled and designed from scratch in a mathematical graphics program similar to (but not exactly similar to) flash, then I used a picture for reference to get the details right.

As a matter of fact, if it looks that close, then I take that as a compliment.

Anyways,

Better, worse?

Those kits will be based on this version if majority likes it, then v9 is where the juicy stuff comes in, such as animations and new poses.

RE: PM's General Spriting topic - PRIMAL MORON - 08-21-2011

Ok, to save this topic from the pit known as page 2, I'm going to provide a few updates:

And a special bonus: an animation that uses real pixel art sprites i made for an animation, then edited in photoshop, no vector involved, only a few example images included to demonstrate use.

and the topic is saved for another day...

Oh and for the wonderful Miss Mighty Jetter's birthday:

Happy birthday shout out, (for the 3rd time... =3)
