RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - Virt - 11-15-2014 You don't necessarily have to draw. You can place it pixel by pixel. RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - Zapchu25 - 11-15-2014 Here, I made this quick analysis of what you can do to make your pixel art better! Just keep trying and you'll get better in no time! RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - Virt - 11-15-2014 I tried to improve the technical aspects while maintaining some of the cartoony appeal (and accidentally making it look like a character from a Mother game :V) and also not make fun of the "dark soulless eyes" or the picture in general (uses 16 colors) But yeah, some important things to remember are to carefully place your pixels, work more on basic art things (character design, color choice, etc) and not use things like gradient and blur effects. Those only make your piece look disjointed. You can also smooth out lines using anti-aliasing. I'm sure you'll get better with more practice! Don't get discouraged. Just keep working hard! I drew this character since my childhoods, and that's what makes me draw "dark soulless eyes" (11-15-2014, 05:20 PM)Zapchu25 Wrote: Here, I made this quick analysis of what you can do to make your pixel art better! And yeah, Fan have no shoulders, I know that And I did the gradient and shdow because I like that! And about the necks... I have a problem with that XD Anyways, thanks for the tutorial! RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - Alexsani - 11-16-2014 Well he may not be a creepypasta character but you definitely made him have, of all things, black rectangles for eyes. Can't say I've ever seen anyone with that. Try to not just focus on the details themselves, it isn't that his eyes are dark and that he has no shoulders, he has no anatomy. There is no skull save a literal circle, the neck is literally larger than the body, the arms are tiny noodles, the nose is a tiny c shape. You may have liked the gradient but I swear it has no place in pixel art. It adds a lot of extra colors, and notice how the left half of the gradient just looks like a straight green? All those colors aren't really adding much to the picture overall. The shadow is doing the same thing. If you really like those, fine. Maybe we can't talk you out of it. But it would be best for you to remove their distraction and focus on your art in the first place (I recommend a neutral gray background for many artistic reasons). Just keep trying and focus on the things everyone here is saying, there's a reason for everything they are saying. Sorry about that ^^; Well, I will pick an another OC since Fan is not suitable for Pixel Art! And also... I have other OC's that are not look like creepypasta! RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - Kelvin - 11-17-2014 No character is unsuitable for pixel art, as long as you're willing to put effort into them. And I understand you like blurs and gradients, but the thing is, it's not pixel art if you don't put every pixel there YOURSELF, and not let the computer do it for you. It looks like the circle itself was drawn with a soft line or circle tool and then hollowed out with a sharp pen, which looks really ugly. Never use a soft tool in pixel art, because it makes pixels you didn't put or intend to put yourself, and has been stated before, adds a ton of colors to your palette. Pixel art isn't even using sharp/aliased lines and shapes; it's taking care of each pixel and keeping a careful eye on everything. It's as precise and meticulous as building with Legos or piecing together a mosaic (in fact, it's literally a digital mosaic). Keeping that in mind as you draw pixel art should help you improve. Thanks for telling me that! I will try to do better in my next pixel art! RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - MilesTheCreator - 11-18-2014 * So... here we go! Another pixel art! But... I know there is a problem with the face, I am editing this soon, if I have the time to do it**! *His name is Sam but people call him "The Secret Boy" for some reason... He is the same guy from this picture http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/221/3/b/sketch__21__the_secret_boy__by_youtubeware-d7ugfs7.jpg and he is my OC of course! **Due to the school days, Maybe I am editing this late... RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - E-Man - 11-18-2014 The head is badly proportioned to the body. You can fix it by either scaling the head down or scaling the body up. By the way, before you even think of using the scale tool of Photoshop, it would be better if you were to do it manually because the scale tool has a habit of leaving artifacts on the default settings. X_X By the way, I will edit the body and the face for later... RE: Community Pixel Hut (General Sprite Thread) - E-Man - 11-18-2014 Sure, it's hard, but who said pixel art was easy? It takes practice and a lot of patience, which is true for pretty much any art form and beyond that. I did high qulaity sprites instead!
