RE: forgotten franchise revival - Dolphman - 04-04-2015

I'd like to see a new Earthworm Jim. Especially since Interplay's been teasing his comeback, as shown in the new Clay-Fighter announcement.

But honestly, i'd rather they don't get Doug Tennaple involved, due the controversy surrounding him for being a real asshole.
You know someone's intolerant to other people's beliefs, when you created a villain as an insult to a teacher who agrees with evolution.
Poor Professor Monkey-for-a-head, learning that ruined the character for me. Not sure if the others are middle fingers towards anything else.

As mentioned ages ago. The HD remake of the first game really sucked due to the huge turd it turned out to be.
- Referencing shitty memes, like Keyboard Cat as a new boss.
- Missing the Big Bruty and Who turned out the Lights? levels.
- Crappy midi style music. Not using the CDDA versions really annoyed me.
- New boss music for each boss which doesn't match the original composer's style.
- Horrible redrawn backgrounds and sprites.
- Redubbed voice who sounds way more annoying. They should've brought back Dan Castellaneta.
- They removed the stock cartoon sound effects and replaced them with more generic ones.
- A very dull and tedious multiplayer mode that rarely anybody used.
- New world that doesn't fit with the original, complete with very lame bosses: An old lady and nanobots forming skulls and fists.
- Made by a nobody developer that pretty much hasn't made a new game since afterwards.
- The Biggest offender of all: Stealing fanart from this guy and editing it. He was even alerted and got pissed off about it.

If they ever port the first and second games, they should be the special editions (EWJ1 for Sega CD/Windows 95 and EWJ2 for Sega Saturn/PS1)
Why? Not only do they have unique features compared to the SNES/MD versions, but kickass CCDA music by Tommy Talarico.

Nintendo looks to be proving me wrong.

Klonoa needs a revival. I'd like it more if story-wise it was deeper like the debut game instead of the more lighthearted sequels and spin-offs, but the new gameplay elements introduced in the sequels like the more diverse effects of inflated enemies and the surfboarding levels wouldn't be too bad.

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Quirby64 - 04-06-2015

Marble Madness! It was a good game with a sequel - it just got cancelled...even though it was finished. Just a ROM dump of one of three arcade boards left would work. Ouch!

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Lunar Archivist - 04-11-2015

I'd like to see new Parodius and Streets of Rages games, of all things. And definitely a proper Chrono Trigger sequel. We're long overdue for that last one, dammit. Sad

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Dolphman - 04-12-2015

I wish 2D Beat'em Ups would come back in general. It's my favorite genre, and nowadays we're lacking those kind of games.
Yeah, Sega needs to give Golden Axe and Streets of Rage more love. Sonic's not their only property.  Rolleyes

Since Activision's license to TMNT expires soon. Hopefully Viacom/Nickelodeon give it to a more competent publisher and developer.
Because so far, only one good game came out of it. Danger of the Ooze, a Metroidvania made by Wayforward.

Not to mention Microsoft seems have big plans for Battletoads, and a few Rare IPs. Including Conker and Banjo Kazooie.

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Koopaul - 04-12-2015

Did I say Primal Rage already? Because I'd freaking love to see a new Primal Rage. A fighting game starring giant dinosaurs and apes with lots of gore in a post apocalypse world? Sign me up!

As the Nickelodeon Turtles is actually surprisingly good (yeah I know, who'd had thought?) I'm really surprised at the lack of Turtles games. I mean even if you don't watch it, the style is nice enough to use in a Turtles game. The last one I remember (Out of the Shadows/Shells or whatever it was called) was pretty bad. It was like they looked at the Batman games and made it terrible in every way. Sure, a TMNT game with 4 player online co-op using a pretty much rip off of the Arkham engine would be kinda cool - but man the world is so ready for another Turtles arcade game...

And with Konami doing a bit pants lately... man I would love for them to get another stab at a Turtles game...

Oh, all of this.

NTMNT is my jam, because that's a show that respects where it came from and knows where it's going. I'm just as baffled at the lack of TMNT games but after everyone going through the HD Remix stage and them trying to remake Turtles in Time and how poorly it was received I'm not too surprised they're wary. For all we know they could be making the smash hit game were all wanting as we speak becuase they're trying to get to that level of classic "People are going to remember this" mentality.  I don't think they need to make a beat em up I think the new show has lots of elemnts that could be really rewarding and fun to enjoy, like the whole ninja hopping from building to building, the stealth mode eyeless mechanic. I could easily see the team that did Mark of the Ninja doing a really good 1 player TMNT adventure game, the only problem is I have no idea how to make Mark of the Ninja a multi-player experience.

This reminds me that I'd really love for EA to hand him the rights to The Neverhood so he can make another game in that universe. I'm not going into any controversy since I know nothing about it, all I know about him is that I love his games and books.

Also, anybody who knows me knows that I'm ever-hopeful for another Puggsy game. It'll happen one day, you'll see...

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Gors - 04-17-2015

As I say, once something exists, it will never cease to exist

this means, anything can and will be revived, one day or another...

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Dolphman - 04-17-2015

Puggsy was an interesting yet fun game, but who currently has the rights? It seems to be the same issue with the original Plok.
Everything by Psygnosis is now at Sony's hands while Traveler's Tales is with Warner Bros. Someone from the latter should know.
Yeah, don't go researching about Doug Tennaple being a douchebag as there's way too much of it. Just enjoy his games the same as me.

And speaking of Sony. We finally got some news about the PS4 reboot of Shadow of the Beast.

I really like how they stayed with the sidecrolling platform style. Making it like God of War would've been too generic and boring.
Good to see Amiga classics getting some love. Hope David Whittaker and Roger Dean come back for the music and art again.

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Gors - 04-17-2015

Mini-thread derail

It's commonplace in the internet to appreciate the creator of something you appreciate: for example, many people like Miyamoto for making Mario and Zelda, that's a fact.

But it's important to note that ultimately, the creator's personal points of view should not matter in liking the creation. We must know to dissociate the creator from the person, and enjoy the game for what it is, and not what the creator is.

(I also want a new Earthworm Jim game, that game was nuts)

RE: forgotten franchise revival - Goemar - 04-17-2015

Shadow of the Beast was the game that was just something else. Had it on the AtarI Lynx and took ages just to figure out what the hell I was doing.

Had heard nothing of a remake until yesterday when I saw the trailer. With the incredible art direction the original had I'm pretty hopeful.

...also kinda hope maybe they'll remake Agony (including the original because it was so damn beautiful).

I think Traveler's Tales own the rights. Back when I was a naive kid (probably a little less than 10 years ago) I remember asking them for the rights so that I could make a sequel. They obviously said I couldn't have them but mentioned that they might make a sequel one day. Although it's unlikely that they'll bother, there's still a spark of hope that they look back at it and consider making a modern version of it. A dream of mine is to, at the very least, make a fan sequel someday.
