RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - jace1313 - 06-25-2020 like okay now. i have new. but instead of just a positive comment, it will now start off with what went wrong. 1. i did the shade thing and did not go well, you know already, you can skip this part. 2. i removed the mountains in the example picture where sonic and needlepine are. i could at least put the new mountains there, but stars. 3. i stole your snowman even though you told me not too. i gave credit, but i dont know. 4. all i did too the objects was not make them look better, not redraw them, not study how the sonic 2 graphics work... but just the shade thing. why. not. i now except for your comment to come and say "you did it wrong. study sonic 2. i keep giving the same critique". i not trying to be mean, being rude could let the mods ban you. RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - SQUIDWORD15 - 06-25-2020 Jace, you must learn to walk before you can run. Start out simple, like a custom Sonic or something easy and keep going from there. You gotta get the ball rolling with something small before you start on the huge stuff. My guess is that a while from now, when your skills improve, you will look at this and easily fix everything wrong. I mean, I would love to fix my art and improve, so I learn from my mistakes and improve my art. It's in our nature. RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - jace1313 - 06-25-2020 im going in circles... i wish there was a tutorial... i... cant... study.... probably... someone... could... help.... i can come back to this later. i can get working on like, an update. RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - Paraemon - 06-25-2020 Spriting Dictionary. About the best thing you can get to a tutorial. RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - jace1313 - 06-25-2020 (06-25-2020, 10:49 AM)The Observer Wrote: Spriting Dictionary. About the best thing you can get to a tutorial.i am so happy. thank you so much. RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - DogToon64 - 06-25-2020 Observer: I might be on a break, but I can still see this thread. I seen that you're starting to get a different tone now. Maybe you should take a break as well as I am taking one, it helped me already, maybe it'll help you as well. Jace1313: Follow The Observer's and Squidword15's advice. They'll help you. Also, even though The Observer said that you might get the same criticism on DeviantArt, you can disable comments if you'd like to (but you won't get critiques). And read the Spriting Dictionary RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - Spriter Theo - 06-25-2020 @jace1313: I'm not sure if this helps, but when I first started making sprites what I did was find sprites that were close to what my end goal was (pose, facial expression, body type, etc.) and just copied the outline. Once the outline was copied I filled in the sprite with the colors of the character I was trying to make, then I added whatever extra accessories they had. I can't guarantee this is the most efficient way of doing things, but it worked for me. If you'd like, I can PM you an example of my process with an old sprite of mine. I second SQUIDWORD15's advice to start with a single item or character you like and drawing it in the Sonic 2 style. I could even help you find references if you'd like. Another thing you may want to consider is playing around with different software. SQUIDWORD15 touched on this as well, but MS Paint isn't exactly the best tool to use when it comes to spriting. At least it wasn't when I last checked it out. I haven't actually used MS Paint in ages, so it is possible that has improved dramatically, but the MS Paint I used was kind of terrible. For one thing it didn't support layers and I use layers heavily. I've been using GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) myself. It probably isn't perfect, but it does what I need it too and it is open source. RE: Winter Zone (Please help) - Dolphman - 06-25-2020 I still use MS Paint and never had any issues with it. I guess I got used to changes easier than other people. My friend DarkVampireDee uses it as well and his Sonic tilesets are amazing. One program I've seen others in the community use is ASESPRITE, which is a pixel art tool. I would only recommend GIMP and Photoshop for things like Doom sprites. And BTW. Those Badniks are by me, and were made long before Tom Payne shared the official files containing the set of scrapped and unfinished sprites. |
