I find both varieties of RPG's to be grindy at times. But yes, turn-based can be awful. The reason I have yet to finish (or commit to finishing) a single Pokemon game is because of how much grinding or even strategy it actually takes to get anywhere. (especially with bosses or gym leaders, who ALWAYS seem to have the upper hand... >.>) I'm not sure what ultimately drives my preferences, though. I think I should actually have ended-up being a Zelda fan, if this hadn't been disrupted. I have a feeling I'll be playing a lot more of it now, though. I'm glad to finally be playing Ocarina of Time, again. It's only been, I think probably near 13-15 years! Currently, I'm playing: Ocarina of Time Learn to Fly 3 I recently played (and beat): Upgrade Complete 3mium (shit! i just forgot the other!) Fleeing the Complex RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - Midday-Mew - 03-01-2016 I'm currently playing Pokemon Y and Super Mario Maker. Both games are really, really addicting. I've already beaten story mode and the postgame story mode of X and Alpha Sapphire. I'm still trying to beat Omega Ruby but I took a break from that to play Pokemon Y. In Pokemon Y I'm currently in Victory Road. In Super Mario Maker, I'm attempting to unlock the Rosalina costume by clearing 100 Mario Challenge enough times. I've already cleared Easy difficulty enough times to get all of the costumes that can be unlocked on Easy, I'm attempting to get all of the costumes that can be unlocked on Normal now. I'm so close to being finished, I have like approximately 13 costumes left to get on Normal. I dread having to beat Expert 30 times to complete the costume collection, because that's where all the troll levels and levels that require pre-patch exploits to win are. Give it a try once it's out if you love cute *and* scary things. c: RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - Zero Kirby - 03-04-2016 So I just decided to marathon all the Metroid games since as it happens, the original came out in Japan in 1986 - yep, this year marks thirty years of Metroid. Woohoo! Also got meself a Shovel Knight amiibo and have been playing through that again with the Custom Knight option, which is actually pretty cool and I wish it had been in the game from the beginning! RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - miyabi95_ - 03-05-2016 Played through the first two Pachi games (DonPachi and DoDonPachi). I just wanted to get some more experience with shmups since they're starting to encourage me to get into game design. So I decided to experiment a bit to see how certain mechanics work. I probably won't play the games after those two, because you have to have godly powers to get through them without losing all your credits (well, if I weren't playing them on an emulator, I would be broke). I really like the variety of weapon choices. Type A has speed and power, B has a wide beam, and C is very spread-out (when powered up enough). RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - Rapidkirby3k - 03-05-2016 Was playing Fast Racing NEO with a few of my gaming friends online. The racing game does look amazing, but at the same time, online mode came in with plenty of bugs. Game freezes, sudden finish lines while on the first or second lap, etc. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - ~Axis~ - 03-05-2016 I downloaded Undertale several days ago and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Well.... actually I'm addicted. Haven't had this much attachment to a game in a LONG time. This is ridiculous. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - miyabi95_ - 03-15-2016 Started playing Super Smash Bros. for N64. It's different for sure - if you're one of those professional gamers who specialize in Smash Wii-U, 3DS, or even Melee, you probably shouldn't play the N64 version for an extended period of time. What I really like about it would have to be the shading and camera. While the graphics are obviously behind nowadays, they created a great camera system and shading effect that makes it really easy for players to see the characters without having to squint. That's something I believe that Smash 3DS really missed, because lately I've been having trouble with knowing which character I am on the screen. Everything's so spread out, including the camera, and the models aren't well-defined from even a rather small distance. Has anyone else had this issue? But I play on the 3DS only...For the Wii-U, I wouldn't know. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - Kriven - 03-15-2016 (03-15-2016, 01:42 AM)JazzGW Wrote: Has anyone else had this issue? I've had this issue with just about every game for the past two generations. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - NICKtendo DS - 03-15-2016 It's not as bad on Wii U, I guess. On smaller stages and with 4 or less fighters. I still manage to get confused sometimes and walk off-stage. It's because of all the damn realistically proportioned human characters. Was I playing as Lucina or Palutena? I forgot! RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - miyabi95_ - 03-15-2016 Jeez I know...They could have at least made the Fire Emblem and Zelda characters slightly more cartoony, like Pit and Princess Peach. I think if the game had shading more like N64/Melee (or even Brawl) it would be easier on the eyes. But nope, games these days have to be dark and grungy. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - miyabi95_ - 03-16-2016 I also discovered this weird glitch in particular while playing SSB64. It was really annoying trying to beat Master Hand - I literally thought I was just completely failing at the game. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - TomGuycott - 03-20-2016 Picked up Pokken Tournament, it's suuuuper fun. People have been complaining about roster size, but most haters don't know about the work that goes into having a good fighter AND a large roster. There also seems room for DLC, I just hope it's free or cheap if it comes around. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - Jermungandr - 03-20-2016 16 fighters is a pretty decent roster for a fighting game generally, especially one which was originally intended for arcades. I think the issue lies with the fact that the game is getting picked up by a lot of people who are more into it for the Pokemon than because they enjoy fighting games, and don't realize that fighting games with giant rosters are not common. Especially if their main experience with fighting games is from Smash Bros. RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - NICKtendo DS - 03-20-2016 The roster size is more apparent when you crawl your way through 80+ battles just to get to the story part and unlock content that's remotely interesting, i.e. anything other than titles and avatar crap. I want to like this game, but single player is a chore, a bore and no fun. Plus it promotes using the same fighter over and over again, rather than having unlockable content unique to specific characters (not counting titles), like ending videos and rival characters in most Tekken games, and Trophies in Smash Bros. I want to get through the borefest as fast as possible, so of course I stick to the character I'm more experienced with and at the highest level. I want to change things up by playing with a different character, but that's the least efficient thing to do. By the way, I cheesed my way through Single Player until the end of the Chroma League by strategically spamming the shit out of Aurora Beam and Hydro Pump with Suicune. The CPU was laughably stupid, but I'd rather win all the time. Otherwise it takes even more forever. |
