I wasn't sure if this needed its own topic or not, though.

there really isnt a story. i just turned on my wii u after an update and the gamepad touch screen wasn't working. called a dude, sent it to the place, and got it back after a month. turns out that the problem was the update, so good stuff for me!

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Koopaul - 02-08-2015

So the only time I watch an entire playthrough on Youtube is if it's a game I never intend to play. I mean what person in their right mind would want to play a game after they watched someone else play the whole thing? It'd be ruined!

On top of that I never watch a playthrough with commentary. I really really hate commentary. How am I supposed to get a good idea of what this game is like with someone yammering over it?

And yet for some reason people eat this shit up. I don't get humanity. Do- do people even like video games?

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Key0808 - 02-08-2015

Call me crazy, but I'd definitely play a game even after watching a whole playthrough of it on YouTube. It sure wouldn't be ruined, because I couldn't care less about story in a game (cutscene skipper!) so the video would just get me excited about the gameplay element of the game. You can't spoil that by watching, only by, well, playing the game for yourself.

So if I see you can do the raddest things in the game and the people making the playthrough are obviously having fun doing that, of course I'd want to go play it too. How would you know if the person making the playthrough is actually enjoying the game if they can't tell you? Plus, depending on who you watch and your tastes of the comedy, they can be pretty damn funny too.

Give me that shit, 'cause I'm eating it.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Koopaul - 02-08-2015

It's not about story it's about the experience. In a game where you need to figure out what to do or how to solve a problem or where to go or whatever, it gets ruined because now you know exactly what to do and what expect. Every surprise is ruined!

I can only imagine if I watched an entire playthrough of Resident Evil before playing it. All those surprises, all the mystery, the sense of horror and helplessness would be gone. I am so grateful I played that game without knowing what was coming.

But if watching Let's Plays is about seeing if a game is good or not, why continue watching the whole thing? Can't you tell if a game is good enough to play by just watching a few episodes in the beginning? Why watch the ENTIRE game? One or two episodes should be good enough.

I guess it's just me then. To me it's not about getting the high score, best time, or achievements. It's about the journey. It's about going on an adventure and experiencing new worlds.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Key0808 - 02-08-2015

But you only actually go on that journey of adventure when you go and play the game. You're more along for the ride when you watch a let's play, and that's fine. Every adventurer starts out as a sidekick somewhere, right?

And sometimes, seeing others having an adventure, makes me want to go on that adventure. Even if I know all the surprises and mystery, it is about the journey. I want to beat up the baddies even if I know I'll win, I want to smooch the princess even when I know when it's going to happen, I want to saaave the daaay when I know I'm on the last mission.

Watching someone beat a good game, that's fine. But then going out of your way to do it yourself too: tons of fun.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Gwen - 02-08-2015

I agree with Koopaul on this one, if I watched an entire game being played, there's no way I'd go out and then buy it especially with how expensive games are these days. I've watched friends play games and even then I don't need to buy it afterwards because I know what happens and shit. If a friend gets a game before I'm able to I can't even watch them play it because everything gets spoiled for me if I do watch them.

I haven't watched the video, but the guy in that preview image looks like late-life Micheal Jackson. Just sayin'.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Kriven - 02-08-2015

If I want to get a taste for a game, I watch a single episode in the middle of a Let's Play series and try to skip anything with in-game dialogue.

I find that I watch complete Let's Play runs for games I'm already familiar with. I enjoy watching other people's approach to games that I love.

I don't watch play-throughs of games I intend to play in the future. I watch them of games I've beaten in the past, because it's funny to watch someone get tripped up, or get stuck on something you did, generally I prefer to watch blind let's plays for this reason.

Sometimes we watch people play video games because they're really good. Cutec

I think people who watch whole "Lets Play" things have a whole lotta time on their hands...

I mean, short little games - like say Pac-Man CE-DX or Metal Slug X, maybe? But a whole game? Like really? Why are you watching someone play a whole game? If I want to know what a game is like I watch a gameplay video, not a "Lets Play" video.

Basically for Arcade games it's nice to see "Flawless Runs" of levels and can be useful in learning the scoring system, otherwise - I have far better things to do with my time.

Having said that, watching comedic "Lets Play" of older games can be fine as long as it's more for the comedy. Gaming Grumps' Goof Troop videos are hilarious for example.

I think nerds who go on video game forums, and have massive collections of games have too much time on their hands.
