RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Flare - 08-14-2008 There is one major difference between Mario and Sonic when it comes to spin offs, Sega make their spinoffs in the same style as their main games with cutscenes, storymodes, characters that go on to be actual characters. Mario Kart didn't have Mario and Luigi running from Bowser and finding out that they can use karts. RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Sho_"Rocker"_Daisuke - 08-14-2008 true, but if Sonic just did it completely spin off, with no story line, then people would claim he's copying Mario, even though spin off games have been done before >.> just goes to show how stupid people/fanboys can really be *sigh* RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Brave_Shyguy - 08-14-2008 (08-14-2008, 07:29 PM)Sho_"Rocker"_Daisuke Wrote: it's only that Mario has had more multi genre games, Sonic hasn't had as many as Mario, but that doesn't make it any different. I don't see people complaining about Mario being in a go kart, or having a golf club, or having a tennis racket, kicking a soccerball, swinging a bat, etc. Exactly what I was implying. Mario has been in everything, platformers, RPGs, Party games, Racing games, Fighting games, Sports games! Everything. And he fits in with those things. Because he never had an "ability" of some sort that helped in the type of game he was in. Hes like in the All-Around class of Videogaming. But Sonic was meant as a platforming type game with his super speed and need to defeat Robotnik/Eggman after passing through levels. Those were the games that Sonic was good at, so why did SEGA stray from that path? RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Koopaul - 08-14-2008 A character's design has very little to do with a game's genre. Same goes with story and atmosphere. This is like a VG stereotype that games that have in-depth stories and deep characters have to be in RPG's or that colorful innocent characters can't be put in an action game. Someday I'm gonna stick some badass anime-looking characters in a pointless party game in spite of this... Only not really. Sonic Party games and Mario Party games, and Sonic Sports games and Mario Sports games, and so on. Mario got to that level first, where he can be in all types of games and fit in. But Sonic stayed in with the platforming type of game for the first few. And those were the best. Lets face it, they are a company they want money. Party games must be easier to make and are popular so they make money quick. Same with Nintendo, if it wasn't for money is there really any need for 10 Party games. And those were the best. being in more than one genre has been done before, I'm pretty sure about that so what if Mario got into this before Sonic? I'm more of a Sonic fan than Mario, and sometimes, I'd just rather play a game with him than that fat plumber that has a speaking dissability and Flare proves a good point RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Yoder - 08-14-2008 For reference, Sonic used a hoverboard (even though he could keep up with Jet), because he needed manueverability at high speeds. Though Sonic has always been able to run at blinding speeds, he isn't sogreat at evading obstacles at his maximum speed. The hoverboard eliminated this problem. That's what bugs me about Mario's spin-off titles (and Sega's Superstar Tennis). The lack of story or anything giving them a reason to participate is odd. Most of Mario's spin-offs are just happy-go-lucky look-at-us bright-and-shiny characters playing for the sport of it. I only liked the original Mario Party (with the assistant mode that gave you a front-defender and a back-defender in a rock-paper-scissors style of gameplay). Sonic Shuffle, despite being reviewed so horribly, is actually a very fun (and challenging) game. The hoverboard eliminated this problem. it's proven that all, if not most of the Sonic characters could outrun the hoverboards, this was proven in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity with a special pickup, though they could not turn greatly, they made up for it with a high powered attack RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Flare - 08-15-2008 Yoder, I believe the hoverboards are used to one give all characters - some of which are slow, some are really fast - an equal chance of winning. But also Sonic has several times taken to snowboarding of sorts and people always like playing these parts so its possibly why they use boards. Sonic Team have a big thing about boards, remember the original intro to Sonic 3. RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Yoder - 08-15-2008 Those times were usually for the sake for terrain (snow/sand/sanfransisco). Uh, wasn't the original intro to Sonic 3 Sonic jumping off Tails' plane and dashing across the water only to be mugged by Knuckles? RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Flare - 08-15-2008 But really they have it because they think it is cool. They could have Sonic run down these places but they don't cause they like Sonic on a board. And the original opening for Sonic 3 was to have Sonic surfing on a board and run onto the island. RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Goemar - 08-15-2008 No one played Sonic Drift here or something? The game where Sonic and friends were in go-karts? I have nothing against Sonic being in different types of games. There's an RPG coming out for god's sake. If Sonic wants to go karting and play some Tennis why not let him? RE: Sega admits Sonic is falling - Yoder - 08-15-2008 I used to own the cartridge for my Genesis, and I never recall seeing that scene. I think people don't consider Sonic Drift, because it is a direct knock-off of Mario Kart. |
