RE: Suggestions - DragonDePlatino - 07-09-2014

Just today I wanted to share a song from over on SoundCloud, but the forum doesn't have any embedding support for it! I mean, come on, we have MetaCafe support but not SoundCloud?!?

SoundCloud's a great site because it lets you neatly upload and collect your music without having to upload videos with them, so it works great for people with slow buffer speeds on Youtube. It's also a pretty popular site with many famous artists, and already has a large variety of pre-built players (the tiny, horizontal-width one is nice). There's even a tutorial here on how to get it working in forums, in case that'd help.

Any chance you can bring back thanking on mobile? Also, quoting on mobile is still broken.

Where do I report models that don't show up correctly on 3DS Studio Max? I downloaded the Lilithmon model, made by user ChakraWarrior2012, but when I loaded it up in 3DS Max, half the model was stretched out and corrupted.

It should look like this

But instead looks like this:

No offense, but aren't these things looked at before being submitted to The Models Resource?

RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 07-10-2014

Of course they're looked at - but not necessarily in the application you use. There are also possibilities for mistakes when going through the approval process. As it stands right now, there is only 1 person working on the Models Resource, and he has a lot on his plate in regards to a queue.

I'd suggest contacted the user that submit it, and see what they say.

Additionally, this is a thread for suggestions, not errors. Errors should be posted in the Errors thread: http://www.vg-resource.com/thread-25289.html

This has been implemented now.

RE: Suggestions - Kosheh - 07-11-2014

Hi Hello Hi I have staff forum questions (probably needs a little ho-hum behind the scenes football huddle)

I posted this in General Discussion.

"General" being you can talk about basically anything
and "Lounge" because of its relaxed nature.
My suggestion still stands. Given that the nature of GD has changed, I think a name change would be appropriate to reflect its new status. (I don't understand why it has to be hidden, though)

I mean, given its new relaxed nature, "General Lounge" seems appropriate - "General" being the span of topics (everything) and "Lounge" implying it's a relaxed place to talk about anything. Unless you're profoundly affected by the past events of the community to the point where you visibly cringe every time you see the word "Lounge", I'm not sure how it would be an issue. Sure, "the lounge" might be a stigma, but that's because we only placed it on the name itself. Why not remember "the Lounge" as one of the best parts of our site because we can still talk about anything?

Also, some other suggestions:
  • If GD is hidden because it can show our compromising side (???), why not hide the Hello/Goodbye forum as well? I mean, can't Norman New User click on it and say "oh HE joined this site? ugh hes a DICK i'll go join a better site"
plus, you can make your account, "unlock" the Hello/Goodbye forum and feel like "oh cool this forum appeared for me, time to go post in it"
  • I asked about a Serious Discussion forum to contrast with GD and the Lounge...this was months ago, and the consensus within the topic seemed to be for it...but it never happened.

idk, sorry to lump all my suggestions into a single post at once lol?
Regarding the Serious Discussion - please do consider it and talk amongst yourselves.
Have a serious discussion about Serious Discussion, lol - and I'm sure the community would gladly offer their two cents on it as well if asked.

RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 07-11-2014

Serious discussions should be possible within the General Discussion board. There's no need for a board dedicated to people asking things that will just end up causing arguments and fights in yet another board. If you only want serious posts in a thread, people will know to put something like [SERIOUS] in the thread name. It's a pretty universal way of how internet discussion boards work.

And are you seriously arguing to change the name of a board now? It's called General Discussion so it fits in with the rest of the boards and it's obvious what it's for.

RE: Suggestions - Garamonde - 07-11-2014

To be fair, General Discussion does kind of come off like you have to put in a decent amount of effort into every post most of the time...

RE: Suggestions - Petie - 07-11-2014

I disagree. To me, it implies that it's a forum for threads that don't fit anywhere else - a catch all. It's a standard name and it suits the forum well, regardless of the relaxed rules. The only reason it likely seems to imply anything else to anyone who has been here for a while is because of the difference between GD and the Lounge before.

RE: Suggestions - Kawasuzu - 07-11-2014

Maybe with the console stats, you can show who added the most amount of new icons?

Example:

RE: Suggestions - Petie - 07-11-2014

http://www.vg-resource.com/icon-stats.php

All renovation stats are available there. None of that data will be permanently added to the sites because the project won't be a permanent part of the site.

RE: Suggestions - Kosheh - 07-12-2014

Oh I wasn't 100% crazy about changing the name, I'm just voicing the concerns of a few other people who felt that the name didn't fit with the other casual titles like "Help me!" and "Welcome/Goodbye!"

I'd rather have a serious discussion forum so I'll just touch on those things instead, and do the really annoying "pick your post apart" thing

Whoa, seriously? I can't believe I didn't know that!
Where in the GD forum rules did it state that?

They theoretically possibly might be able to be done (technically!) within the General Discussion board given the forum's structure and more sensible forum culture. Unfortunately, with the new relaxed rules in GD as well as GD historically being more of a casual area to talk about hobbies, it's difficult to talk about actual world issues while maintaining an intelligent perspective. It's happened sometimes, with Koopaul's new Male Gaze thread and Sengir's Real Life post regarding transgenderism in the modern world.

Creating an actual subforum
  • automatically sets a serious tone for the posters and posts
  • this reassures posters that their topics won't particular be shitposted in (and we all hate shitposting, right? that's why there's no lounge)

A Serious Discussion subforum,
  • allows for intelligent discussion, not arguments and fights (if you're getting mad over an actual debate that's pretty stupid, sorry).
  • and all this serious discussion actually creates a stronger bond between the community
  • it also ensures that the community is a little more knowledgeable on world issues (we can probably tell you that Israel and Palestine don't like each other, but no one here could tell you why. And probably 1 in 4 of us don't even know or care about it - and that's an issue)
  • Users will be able to empathize better with one another on personal issues as well, (THIS is actually a big one - particularly on LGBT issues in 2014) and really allow some posters to shine
  • Discourages groupthink within the community

With a subforum though, you could assign a moderator specifically to ensure that things don't get out of hand, and if they do, exercise a zero-tolerance policy. Currently if we did that in GD, you'd end up having additional responsibilities as administrators (and moderators, too) to ensure serious topics go smoothly.

RE: Suggestions - Omegajak - 07-12-2014

A forum with options is a forum where people know when to act appropriately. #RIP Spamhaul you saved me from being a teenage troll. (Is now 25)

RE: Suggestions - Omega - 07-12-2014

This is more of a question then a suggestion, but uh, are forum games allowed?

RE: Suggestions - Vipershark - 07-12-2014

I'm on my phone so I can't quote but uh
Is that a serious question?

If so, please read the stickied thread by me in GD.
