I'm not sure if you can peak at the code behind it or anything, but may be worth a go. Don't really know any other sites which do such things. They probably do exactly what I mentioned above - check your IP against an IP table of some sort which, again, is overkill (not to mention a bit of a nightmare to maintain as free versions require manual database updates) just to change a couple of console names. RE: Suggestions - Goemar - 10-01-2011 Ah if it's anything too difficult I wouldn't bother, thought I'd just put it out there. As for the Tutorial section, yeah I'm stating the obvious but it's been some time now. Even if it's only a quick temp content update I'm sure a lot of people would really appreciate it. RE: Suggestions - Gors - 10-26-2011 I've said this on the 'wayback' thread and it received some positive response, so I am making it formal here How about we using a tag system on the sheets for better search? You could even also have tags for popular sprite styles so if anyone wanted, say, all M&L styled sprites, he could only type the tag and have a complete list with sprites in that style. RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 10-26-2011 I think that I would struggle to go through 40,000 sheets adding tags... RE: Suggestions - Gors - 10-26-2011 we could have contributors to help tagging sheets. We have hundreds of members that could help tagging the sheets. I could even tag some of them myself. Just a suggestion, though. RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 10-26-2011 It is actually something I've had in my notebook of ideas. Perhaps some time in the future it'll be something I should add. I already had a plan on how to put it in, too, but it will require a lot of planning. RE: Suggestions - Ton - 10-26-2011 The search system in general could use a bit of an upgrade. Words under 4 letters don't get searched at all, for instance. RE: Suggestions - Petie - 10-26-2011 The new site will have an improved search system though I haven't fully figured out how just yet. There's not exactly enough there to warrant a fulltext index (though I could set it up regardless) but I don't know if going with the simpler form of search (SELECT WHERE LIKE '%search_term%' will suffice. I like the fact that you can do boolean searches with a fulltext index but there's so little text for each entry that I'm not really sure it's justified. RE: Suggestions - Proton - 11-12-2011 Pretty sure it's come up before, but the 20 posts to make request rule is ridiculous. There's one or two members joining a day and then spamming to get to 20 posts to get their requests, some of which are threads that are already requests where they get told to just have 20 posts. Rule should be stricter. RE: Suggestions - Random Talking Bush - 11-12-2011 (11-12-2011, 04:23 PM)Proton Wrote: Pretty sure it's come up before,Agreed. Something such as being on the forums for a certain amount of time (a month or two, for example) should be added in, so that people don't just spam 20 posts then put up a request. RE: Suggestions - Garamonde - 11-12-2011 This guy is the latest in this trend and I'm really sick of seeing it. I second the month thing, but then someone could just join and come back a month later, so I dunno. RE: Suggestions - Previous - 11-12-2011 Problem is that these people don't understand that being able to make a request doesn't mean that anyone will actually help them. Spamming everywhere to get those magical twenty posts, however, tends to lower ones actual reputation and decreses the little change they have even more. I always finf it rather funny how some people think that others will help them just because. But hey, they have this great idea and are making a real game!! That's sooo cool and everyone wants to help and be credited in their going-to-be-super-awesome-mind-blowing-record-breaking-extremely-popular game! Of course I will make some sprites for you, despite I don't even get to making sprites for my own game projetcs! Haha. Point is, yes, I agree. Yet, the main problem is that people are unwilling to read rules, no matter how hard you try to make those rules highly visible. (Since I think that these rules do mention the facts about requests bein unavailing if you are a random nobody to everyone.) (Since I think that these rules do mention the facts about requests bein unavailing if you are a random nobody to everyone.) Arguably yes, but a majority of requesters pop in and make the first thing they do their request, and then are told they need 20 posts, and then start spamming, as usually a locked thread is given an explanation as to why in the lock. But, if they already start by spamming, they: A. Already saw the rule and are grabbing the 20 posts B. Are just a spammer, who already will be considered as one, despite them possibly knowing they aren't one or aren't reading the rules to begin with. They'll just be told they're a spammer by a mod, user or admin. RE: Suggestions - Petie - 11-12-2011 On the subject of spamming to 20 posts, people are actually unable to post in the requests thread before they hit 20, correct? It's not just a rule that people tend to ignore? I know that this is how it's set up but I want to be sure it's actually working. We can easily add more to the requirements. Things that can be factored into the group promotion are as follows: Post Count Reputation Referrals (we obviously won't use this one) Time Registered It can be set so more than one of those criteria must be met so, for instance, a requirement of 20 posts and 1 month registered is entirely possible. I'm just not sure what Dazz actually wants to do here but if it's really that much of an issue, I'm sure he'd be open to modifying how it works a bit. Requests are more commonly found in the Game Development and Sprite and Pixel Art (especially Project) sections, despite that there's an actual section for requests titled Requests. I'm not in the Ripping section at all, but I'm just going to assume people ask for shit there outside of the section, too. |
