If you ignore the Werehog stages, then that is what I wanted 3-D sonic to be all along. Actually, I kinda liked the Werehog stages. It was nice for Sonic to actually trade punches with enemies for once instead of spamming the Homing Attack (I especially liked upgrading Werehog's stats and unlocking those awesome combo attacks), plus the platforming was nicely varied. RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Alpha Six - 06-05-2010 The thing wrong with the Werehog stages is that they changed the pace of the pace of the game too much. It's just really weird for a super fast-paced game to just slow down like that. RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Daroach - 06-05-2010 Well hey, I slowed down all the time in Sonic 1's Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone and I still enjoyed it. And even back in the Genesis games, if players were going for the emmerowds, they'd have to slow down and take their time; picking up rings, avoiding hazards, and/or finding the hidden areas. I'm finding myself having to constantly redo Sonic 2's Aquatic Ruins Zone Act 2 on Classic Collection to get to the bonus stage with all my Rings and trying to beat the stage all at once. So, yeah, slowing down in Sonic games isn't really all that new to be honest. RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Alpha Six - 06-05-2010 No, you're misinterpreting what I'm saying. The Classic games weren't about speed, they were about platforming. The newer sonic games are more about stunts and speed, hence why the Werehog levels were an odd change of pace, especially since the day levels have you going at supersonic speed. Also the werehog's battle controls are kinda lame. RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Daroach - 06-05-2010 Alpha Six: I wasn't trying to say that Sonic's Genesis games were all about speed; I'm well aware that they had a crapton of platforming in between all that super speed. What I was trying to say that if people had wanted to perfect the game, they would have to slow down and do the stuff I mentioned earlier to get the emeralds. And yes, I'm aware that the whole thing was optional to do, though I tend to be a perfectionist when it comes to things like Sonic. RE: Sega Announces new 2D Sonic title - Koopaul - 06-05-2010 You know the classic Sonic games also had the option to go back, run in the reverse direction, and look around for rings or secrets. Levels were like a labyrinth of exploration, not branching pathways forcing you forward. So even if these new games feature "alternate routes" you're still going forward. They've gotten so obsessed with how fast Sonic goes, I'm surprised they don't have a fucking speedometer on the side of the screen. |
