I honestly couldn't have put this any better myself.
Really the Sword and Shield would've fit the Solider better. It's a good idea and all, but I really don't think it works with the Demo.

I know what you're saying; Explosives would have been more fitting for him. He is a Demolition man, after all.
I wouldn't worry, though, I'm sure his next weapon will be something true to his name, and hopefully he'll get the extra weapon too, whatever it is.

well in my opinion I don't think it could be any more perfect for me. cause I try to smack my enemies with the bottle at every given chance I get and to know now he gets a proper close combat weapon is just . . . . . . . AWESOME!!

Chances are if you suck with hitting people with the bottle, you suck hitting everybody with any melee weapon. Including the sword.
You're one of the kids whose just happy to see a sword in TF2. If the fucking Engie got it, you'd be happy.
And he is the fucking Demoman. Which are explosives. You can't have enough explosives. it's really disappointing to see this. :V

As much as I agree with all the hate for the sword (as he is the Demoman, after all), allow me to point out the fact that it's called the "Close-Combat Kit" or whatever for a reason. I'm assuming it's for when you run out of ammo.
Not to mention the fact that it's a play on him being scottish.

Huh? Sorry, I'm extremely slow and don't understand what you're trying to say...
Anyway, I think the sword and shield is cool, and it probably fits the Demo better than it would anyone else. Though, it does really seem quite random, too.
Besides, what sort of other explosives could he have that are not clones of existing weapons (other than the dynamite, which is just a clusterbomb version of the 'nade launcher anyway)?

They gave THAT demoman a name.
It can be assumed that there are millions of other demomen who look just like him that were raised in different circumstances and have different names.
