So far it looks good. You have a nice grasp of the style. The only thing that bugs me is the body. Can you post a ref? (for comparisin)

Ah, I see it. You need to make his torso a little smaller though. Maybe just skinnier.
As for birdo, the outlines around the "beak"(?) is too dark, and her pose is way too stiff.
