RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Novally - 02-16-2013 I need some advice on the legs... RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Garamonde - 02-16-2013 it's only been day (sometimes topics aren't replied to for a couple days), so you should wait a bit longer before bumping or post some new content to make the bump not seem as pushy heh. people are usually busy enjoying their weekends so they may not be on TSR as much or want to spend time critiquing on their breaks, just saying. RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Mr. Jam - 02-17-2013 I don't really know how to fix the legs, but I think the symbol on Mario's cap should be moved to the left a pixel RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Novally - 02-18-2013 I fixed the legs already. I just never posted an update. RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Gors - 02-18-2013 This is something that goes ambiguous in many Mario games, but I personally think that if he say, rises the right arm when jumping, his left leg should be forward. After all, his jump is an exaggeration of a running animation frame. Also, this way, his body weight is evenly distributed, and more believable. Just try it for yourself, run and jump like Mario. It is uncomfortable to put both left limbs forward. RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Novally - 02-18-2013 You're right about that! RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Novally - 04-15-2013 I've been busy with college and honestly playing a lot of video games. I have been hired to sprite for a handful of 'indie' games. It's been fun really! I'm spriting for an RPG game right now. RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - AutumnSpire - 04-15-2013 I think your sprite could benefit from some more sel-out. The browns could use more contrast and probably more saturation. The face feels kinda scrunched up, probably because the eyes are so tiny and close together (since the sprite is 'chibi', maybe you should take advantage of the extra space on the face?) Also, the fact that the upper part of the overalls' pocket is darker than the bottom seems contradictory to the lightsource, in my eyes. I don't really like the hair shape and that bangs' symmetry, but I don't have a lot to suggest on that. That said, it doesn't seem like the bangs are casting any shadow at all. I've been busy with college, I DON'T play any video games ever anymore, and truthfully I've never been hired for any indie games ever :C. Anyway about that sprite. I do Like the color choices but the values should have more of a hue change. There also seems to be a large contrast between shades, while you don't really have to change that this can easily make the shading look bad. You should definitely stay away from the darkest shades in the corners pattern you have going on. I've also noticed you're in the middle of a outline x no-outline style. It's never good to be in the middle. I think with a sprite the size of that an outline would fit it well. Also there's nothing on the face! Something with the surface area of that could fit a Cheshire cat's face on it. Make those eyes bigger. And AA around the blush because it sticks out too much. RE: Novally's Sprite Thread (C+C needed!)* - Novally - 04-17-2013 @AutumnSpire I will take this into account when I work on the final product. I was actually given an example to follow that he had from a former artist. I have to make time for my games! But yeah, that's the sample. I saved the comments in a notepad file so when it's time to work on the full game I'll be ready. There is no actual design for the main character so I just went ahead and submitted that as an audition and got the part. |
