It would be cool just to add all of the existing characters, plus more, like I thought Brawl was gonna do. Just think of it as a "Brawl+" without hacks and actual content addition to the game. In addition, I think "clone characters" wouldn't be a bad idea so long as we differ them from there "Alpha Copies". Instead of people maining characters simply because of preference, we'd actually be making the clones into unique characters and people would have a better foundation on maining them, although they are or may be the same character physically or in a cosmic sorta way, which shouldn't entirely matter IMO.
However, if something like memory ever does happen to be an issue, then I'd think some cuts would be in order...

Your mind is being clouded by your stubbornness. You being to stupid about keeping characters in. If people wanted a brawl game, they would've picked up the real brawl. I don't want this game to be brawl with a couple of extra characters. But apperantly, that is what your limited imagination is capable of thinking of. At this point, talking is pointless. Make the brawl clone that all of you are so hungry for.

So let me get this straight. You want Melee +? I thought that's what this was supposed to be in the first place.
Its really not going to kill anyone to have extra characters, but I think we should have a solid engine before adding a bunch. Once we have a good engine I don't really care what characters go in. I think we should also try to get in some online modes and maybe some voicechat in once the basic engine is done. If a friend system is done it should be simple and not overly complicated like Wii online.
It wasn't the characters that made Super Smash Flash suck. It was the lack of attention to everything else.

So to attract audiences, we need to have a limited amount of characters? If they don't wanna play as a certain character, they won't pick him! You're argument makes no sense! Sure, we don't need both Young Link and Toon Link, but Olimar and Rob? Those characters have completely unique movesets! If anyone else wants to do your idea, then fine. Good Luck convincing them to make the game less fun.
Now, I think we should have an adventure mode, kinda like a mix of Melee and Brawl, and maybe it could be multiplayer? Just an idea

I dont know where in ANY of my posts in which I said less characters. Anyone with half a brain would know that i would want more variety of characters not the exact same roster on the console version.
All you are trying to do is make sense out of nothing.
What you are describing is a complete clone of brawl complete with Lolo, now that would attract an audience

And I fully support the inclusions of Krystal, Claus, Little Mac and Megaman. I also wouldn't mind seeing Starfy.
I agree completely. As other people said, we don't have to follow what Nintendo would do, as we're not Nintendo but it still makes sense to keep bigger franchises balanced. Mario is Nintendo's big mascot franchise whereas Pokemon is their big Handheld franchise, it makes sense for those two to have the most.
For Mario, I see four possible candidates that make sense.
Bowser Jr.: Bowser Jr. has appeared in every major Mario platforming title as a primary villian since his appearance in Super Mario Sunshine and even was basically the main villain in NEW Super Mario Bros. He's been in pretty much every spin-off title since his inclusion and is probably the only major Mario character in this day and age to not be playable. Give him his paint brush, as well as maybe some spin-off based moves and you have a pretty neat character.
Toad: Toad may be a longshot at this point, due to Nintendo's recent decision to make him practically not exist, but before they decided to use him less, he too was a major player. He was playable in SMB2, was Peach's loyal friend in most of the original games, starred in Wario's Woods and was a major character in all the cartoon series'. Toad's moveset maybe a little harder to come up with than Bowser Jr's, but it could be done.
Geno: Geno's popularity is undeniable and because we're not Nintendo and don't have to go through Square to get him in the game, I see no reason he shouldn't be included. He's got plenty of moves and plenty of popularity to back him up.
Paper Mario: While I for one am not a big fan of alternate versions of the same character *Though I do love me some Toon Link*, Paper Mario is different enough from Mario himself to actually have an original moveset and be an all around fun character. Plus, a sprite sheet already exists.
