RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Paladin - 06-26-2015 (06-26-2015, 12:16 AM)Kitsu Wrote: I enjoyed playing awakening with casual mode, since I could play levels wherein my units were hilariously underleveled (meaning precise tactics becomes incredibly important) and continuing through the level when my units started dying, basically ACTUALLY living with the consequences, even if only in the short term (of course, you do still sacrifice gaining experience with those units)Well, this is sorta the problem with casual mode, it changes the way you play. Normally, you're punished for losing a unit by either having to go through the rest of the game without them, or reset the map. In casual mode, these consequences have vanished, and you can utilise strategies that would otherwise be dangerous. I don't really have a huge problem with casual mode, but it seems redundant. I don't think it adds much to the gameplay except accessibility, which can often prove detrimental. I can't say I'm very fond of a lot of these new mechanics, really. No Fire Emblem post-Radiant Dawn has really impressed me, which is kinda sad. Still, it seems like the maps in Fates might be a step-up from Awakening. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Helmo - 06-26-2015 Mario Maker is coming out on 9/11 I can already see the levels now RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - psychospacecow - 06-26-2015 (06-26-2015, 06:10 AM)Paladin Wrote:(06-26-2015, 12:16 AM)Kitsu Wrote: I enjoyed playing awakening with casual mode, since I could play levels wherein my units were hilariously underleveled (meaning precise tactics becomes incredibly important) and continuing through the level when my units started dying, basically ACTUALLY living with the consequences, even if only in the short term (of course, you do still sacrifice gaining experience with those units)Well, this is sorta the problem with casual mode, it changes the way you play. Just need to include good ol' breakable walls, and less "a single small bridge across the street" and "just that road over there" maps. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - psychospacecow - 06-30-2015 So, got past chapter 12 in Valkyria Chronicles but forgot to save so now I have to go through the feels trip that was 11 again. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Koopaul - 06-30-2015 Speaking of Valkyria Chronicles, who else has played Code Name S.T.E.A.M.? RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Kitsu - 06-30-2015 me me me I love it (06-26-2015, 06:10 AM)Paladin Wrote: Well, this is sorta the problem with casual mode, it changes the way you play. If you don't reset, sure, but how many people don't reset in a serious run? I love the idea, but as I said, it would need to be enforced (by auto-saving and not allowing resets) to really ensure it actually functions as intended. Of course, in Fire Emblem, not allowing resets isn't really viable (especially since you go through a forced reset if a Lord dies anyways, and the game is far too long and story-focused to just have files deleted upon Lord death lol). Obviously, if you're going for a perfect run or are willing to force yourself to not save scum, the classic system works fine. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - psychospacecow - 07-01-2015 Beat Valkyrai Chronicles. Game is hard. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - recme - 07-01-2015 started playing fire emblem awakening: lunatic +, VVVVVV, and 1001 spikes. i dont know why i am torturing myself like this... RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Kosheh - 07-03-2015 So uh, if you're old like me and heard of the Nintendo/Sony collaboration and then the Philips betrayal that resulted in the creation of Sony's Playstation, it's...yeah, it's a thing. But uh, apparently a guy actually ended up with a prototype of the console. It's all over the internets and social media, but this is kinda bizarre. And there's a picture and video of the SNES Disc System. But uh. Yeah I'm kinda inclined to believe it's fake for now, as my inner Koopaul feels this guy doesn't seem to know his ass from his elbow with videogames, seems like a dumbass in general and just doesn't deserve to possess this unicorn "it's uh, this looks like a super nes controller, but i can't tell. i haven't played with one in a while." RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - TGE - 07-04-2015 Why did the guy have to show his face? .-. It's about the console, not about him. Side note, it does seem like a lot of the 'prototype' game console videos are made by people who aren't even gamers and have no clue what they're talking about. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - E-Man - 07-04-2015 Real or not, I'm now wanting to see someone make a Super Nintendo mod or something like that that is at least pretty close to the original concept Sony attempted to do with Nintendo. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Iceman404 - 07-04-2015 http://mynintendonews.com/2015/07/04/liam-robertson-nintendo-nx-is-not-aiming-to-compete-against-ps4-on-a-power-level/ HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - TomGuycott - 07-04-2015 Power's not everything, and it means nothing for a game system if its games have no creativity, innovation and brand recognition. Not to say that other companies have NONE of that, but Nintendo practically oozes with it. RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Helmo - 07-04-2015 I thought the joke was some guy claims he knows all about the next console with no source? RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - TomGuycott - 07-04-2015 Ah, well that is actually funny. Sorry, I'm on my phone today and tend to skim and fail to zoom in. X: |
