RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Iceman404 - 05-01-2012 So will this keep the dumbass 8-world trend again. I know it's a staple of Mario these days, but I only call it 'dumbass' because we have the technology to possibly have MORE than just that. It also allows for more themes than just the basics we've been getting for years. RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - TomGuycott - 05-01-2012 Know what would be awesome? A single world map that you had to traverse, explore levels and figure out which were challenging, which were actually leading you to your goal, and making the player work for the ending rather than rolling it out on a red carpet. Even using Super Mario Land 2 as an example, which essentially just let you choose each linear world map, you were able to do ANY at your own pace, and if you got hung up on one level, you could go to a different map and try that instead. RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Koopaul - 05-01-2012 I always wanted a 3D Mario game that allowed you to trek the entire Mushroom Kingdom. Jump from village to village, meet locals, collect Stars! RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - NICKtendo DS - 05-02-2012 It needs a Super Mario World type of map. Super Mario World didn't feel like it was seperated into 9 worlds, though at the same time it is quite obvious. Via Donut Plains or Chocolate Island you may end up in Valley of Bowser's map, giving the idea that all worlds are a whole (except Star and Special World). A single, giant world split into parts with surprise paths/ secrets, that is what made Super Mario World amazing. And that's just the map. They should scrap 'World Select' and make it one whole world, like SMW. RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Chaoxys - 05-02-2012 I'd rather it be done like a mix of SMW and SMS. By that I mean I'd like the worlds to have more distinct themes or characteristics. Of course this doesn't mean it has to be basic themes, but something to make it feel like you are really moving along. Nah, I think I'll limit you to a castle and a few orbiting planets instead. C: RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - TomGuycott - 05-02-2012 Hey hey hey hey hey, the Peach's castle concept was intuitive for its time. The entire world of Super Mario 64 was stemmed from a place that was on a much smaller scale than you'd have expected, ultimately smaller than anything else that the franchise had done before, and yet it was still a solid hub with surprising amounts of --- Hang on a second, are you just referring to Galaxy? Or both 64 and Galaxy? I might have gotten confused a second. xD RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Sonikku - 05-02-2012 (05-02-2012, 09:09 AM)NICKtendo DS Wrote: It needs a Super Mario World type of map.the smw overworld system was no doubt the coolest thing in smw but when it comes down to the programming portion smw was a literal mess in the overworld department lmao although it would be neat to see them reuse some smw-ish things like an actual overworld system RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - TGE - 05-04-2012 (05-01-2012, 11:12 PM)Koopaul Wrote: I always wanted a 3D Mario game that allowed you to trek the entire Mushroom Kingdom. That reminds me a bit of Super Mario Sunshine.... See, you put your response UNDER the quote. RE: New Super Mario Bros. 2 - DioShiba - 05-05-2012 Jesus with all this brainstorming it sounds like we could make our own Mario game. If there's anything I want to see in a new Mario game in general is well, actually focusing on the plumber aspect of Mario and somehow use that to expand on exploration. What happens if you could see a clogged pipe? Mario could just pull out a plunger and pump all the crap down and explore a completely new section of the level. The use of equipment to find new little secrets in a level seems like it could add a new sense of gameplay while focusing on exploring the world around you. Of course Nintendo could pull off all kinds of ideas if they weren't so afraid to change things up, which I can sort of understand. THey know that classic sells and they don't want to risk making something that would not only not sell, but may hurt the sales of future games. Either way, it's a chance they should be willing to take. They tried It's called Mario Tennis, in which it worked like a shonen only to end up getting hated by koops Ridge (and most likely others) due to seemingly poor excecution and/or "didin't fit the theme" (ironically a third of the fancharacters are humans, being edits of Mario, Luigi, and Peach, which are ALL humans which makes me scratch my head in confusion, no offense CBL). I see no doubt this game won't do anything diffrent since I find NSMB2 basically the last game only on the 3DS with a few updates.. .. But I'm not gonna judge it by just 4 screens just yet. Gonna wait and see how it unfolds. |
