I'm not sure what you mean by this, will they react when you try to jump on them and get hurt by the spike? Like the Spiny Goomba in Paper Mario? RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - Gors - 07-14-2012 the colors look kind of washed out for a happy-looking game. I suggest you to work on them. It means that if you shoot them, they'll jump on impact, making them harder targets. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - Garamonde - 07-17-2012 Ah I see, I suppose I just misunderstood your writing then. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 07-18-2012 To be fair, I didn't write it as clear as a should have. EDIT: I smacked every enemy made so far into a sheet and simply boosted the colors with Photoshop. Big image, so take cover! Every single sprite that are in the game so far have been modified with the exact same values so to keep the same number of colors. It does look more vivid. MORE EDIT: This is a screenshot of a dungeon level where a sidequest takes place. It has you grinding through slimes and battling the optional boss Red Dragon (creativity) at the end. The red sparkles indicate that the red Power-Up is active, which lets you shoot fire balls that inflict more damage. These are the only ones that harm either Dragon and is activated by getting 3 Strawberries, or in this sidequest's case, 10 Cherries. The former activates it for 10 seconds, the latter activates it until you exit the level. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 07-26-2012 I eventually animated Princess' right leg in the idle animation. It's about time I did it. Still need to edit the skirt. Will get to it... eventually. I'd also like to grasp the opportunity to show off another screenie: It's Oldskool Kingdom, which is a videogame inspired stage. Don't mind the Red Oni being buries in the ground. I happened to shoot on that particular frame where he hits the 288 y-value. That behind Princess is indeed Princess from Bouncy Cat, or Princess Princess from Another Dimension as it is called in this game. You'll unlock her when you clear a secret stage. She's a W.I.P. PPfAD is a unique assist character that jumps off the tower behind Princess (assists normally stay on the tower) and periodically shoots and jumps, not unlike her human counterpart. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - Neslug - 07-29-2012 It might just be me, but the larger characters look enormous when seen alongside the smaller, repeating tiles. Basically what I'm saying is that everyone (apart from the dragon, dragons come in all sizes) looks like they've ingested some magical growth-enhancing mushrooms, this effect could be fixed by making the tiles match the characters' size better. Then again, I don't know if this was intentional, just my two cents. Otherwise looking great. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 08-31-2012 Finally got something to show. I will be working on a boss for that stage, which is a large, castle-like golem called (and pardon my creativity) Castle. It's been 3 or so weeks since my brother finally granted me some decent access to his PC. My stuff (files, programs and drivers) are on there, but I was gone for a week to visit my friend and since then, my bro and his friend set up both their laptops to play shooters together, disconnecting the PC in the meantime. My brother hooked up the PC again, but with both laptops still on the desk. At this very moment, I am sitting on my bed, typing on a wireless keyboard and using my tablet as a mouse. It's pretty unconfortable, but progress can finally be made. Sorry if I bothered anyone with this personal issue, but now you know why I haven't uploaded a single sprite in like forever. (NSMB2 contributed a little bit, just a very little bit). RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - Garamonde - 08-31-2012 It's all good, just glad to see some of your stuff again. The background is very Kirby mixed with Sonic. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 09-01-2012 A screenie with a boss I just made. Believe me, it was quite some work. His animation is done via multiple objects and programming (GM8), similar to traditional giant bosses from the good old days. His name is Castle and he is the leader of the Lithos Army, including Golems, Totems and Ghonks (totally not Thwomps). He attacks by firing Golem Missiles from his cannon arm that explode midflight, unleashing a wave of fire, and launching Ghonk Rockets from his head that try and crush Princess by falling on top of her. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 09-10-2012 I made quite some progress with Princess Fantasy, but didn't want to showcase too much, since I'm not really looking for constructive feedback on majority of it (if there's a problem, it'd pop up eventually for me to fix). This, however, I feel the need to show off. I love how her design turned out, but what's important is the animation, since wings isn't what I usually do, at least on this scale. Like all the other Assist characters, she is a noble ruler. She is the Phoenix Dutchess and the only non-cameo Assist that is not part of the story. She is unlocked through special means. Being a phoenix, first thing that comes to mind is rebirth. She is in her egg form at start, but hatches when your health is low or when 3 Kiwis are collected (Green/Assist Boost). She'll drop a Peach (4HP health restore) and follow you flying while breathing balls of fire. While she has no kingdom marked on the map, it is believed that she rules the heavens beyond the sky. Being immortal, she flies freely through space. She's attracted to displays of great strength and spirit. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 10-04-2012 Bored, so I made this: It's a Golem from the Princess Fantasy game in tFR-style. Might make this into a full fighter, not for the game, but because I can. Production speed may vary as I have Princess Fantasy to finish (it's getting there; final boss finished and stuff; need to make endings and lock stuff) and life that's slowly kicking off. EDIT: Never mind. It was one of those moment and now I don't feel like completing something fairly insignificant as this. Still, Princess Fantasy is growing and on its way, so that's something to look forward to. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - Gors - 10-04-2012 the idle looks good. as for the Phoenix character, the winds animate well but I don't think her tail is aligned with the rest of her body (same with the crown). Also the fact that her head doesn't move even in flight makes it really stiff, but you already know that. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - NICKtendo DS - 10-04-2012 Since I'm already talking about Princess Fantasy, here are some sprites of Shishkabob that originally appeared in Bouncy Cat Mao. Walk cycle Hit frame This is for a secret stage unlocked after defeating the final boss. He acts similar to the Golems in that it jumps when shot, but doesn't jump as high. @Gors: Thanks for the feedback. Now I know the wings are okay. As for the stiffness (which applies to quite a bundle of sprites in the game), the entire game is done by me alone. I hope you understand that some sprites have lower priority for fluid animation as I'm making every single sprite. In-game, where she follows Princess, because she is constantly moving, it isn't such a big deal. The focus is also more on Princess and what's coming at her. I know it's meant as constructive critisism and I take it as such. Just letting you know the reasons. RE: Nick's Pixels'n'stuff - Garamonde - 10-04-2012 I think the eyes could use a bit of AA. |
