Generation one actually more or less used the anime for a more in depth version of the storyline to the games, which is why in yellow you were Ash and that Pikachu followed you around. They needed to think of something for Mewtwo just chilling in a cave, so the movies explained that.

No, they used the show to make a sequel for the idea that people wanted to be Ash as the show became a phenomenon to fans.

The only depth was how much deeper Game Freak's pockets got.

It had nothing to do with the game's lack of depth in (or overall lack of) a story.

I really do think that at first the anime was there to explain things a bit better in the world of the games while keeping kids entertained because the game was for kids after all.

The way I see it, the anime was originally a way of making money on the side of the games, then with Pokemon Yellow, the games started adapting to the anime so that they could make money on the side of the anime, if that makes sense.

Wow, this image is everything I ever hoped to say to someone who goes all like "Newer Pokemon are dumb, first generation for the win*

Oh god.

Being on topic, I didn't really like Generation 3 at all (never finished it! Neither RSE or GEN 1 remake) and always thought that it had the worst music in all Generations. But after re-hearing the OST...well...it may actually have the best music in the series, even in crappy GBA Mono quality.

But yeah, aside from that, I just don't really like the graphics and Pokémon for this generation (I don't find them bad, I just...didn't have any favorite. I like GEN 4 and 5 though) Blank

my overall opinion of gen 3's pokemon is somewhat higher than some others in terms of the pool of pokemon I don't care much about in each generation

but there's just not a lot of individual stars that jump out at me. I don't have a lot of favorites in gen 3.

Ok, so now I realize I actually like a lot of Gen 3 Pokémon Surprise (it's the one I have less favourites though)

Buuuut, I really don't like the GBA Graphics (I prefer the GB/GBC ones over them), maybe if they made a remake of them, I could learn to love it.

it had like six double battles and everyone prefers singles, abilities werent really an improvement, just a change and if by varied world map you mean 50% water then sure

I think the games were fine. Gen 3 is my worst on the list.
But all of them are good, soooo... I can't say Gen 3 is underappreciated, at least from my point of view.
Wait, scratch that, Diamond and Pearl (Gen 4 I think?) is at the bottom.
THEY were bad.

RE: Pokemon Gen 3 - Underrated or Underappreciated? - Cell Shaded Envy - 03-16-2012

I think I'm kind of biased towards 3rd Gen because it's the first Pokemon game I ever played. Also I love playing Emerald. So much.
