The common problem I have with knockback coding is forgetting to check collisions and ending up going through walls. Easily solved but makes for fun glitches in testing...

I find the square shape default makes an okay pixelated fire, but yeah, a lot of gm's default stuff doesnt look good next to pixel work in my opinion. My issues with knockback usually result from timers, and resetting them properly.

I seriously have that same issue, was working on a stamina bar for a spin attack and yeah it doesn't work and the player just spins 5'ever..
Anyhow really smooth animations! I am Impressed.

if you're coding in gm, maybe you could alter the code i have for the beam overheat bar to work? it doesnt run on timers, but seems to do the job just the same.

Pretty clear I'm not a sound guy, yeah?
(i know the video image itself is crap, i recorded the game at 1x like a dummy, but since the sound effect test was the focus, no point in fixing it)

(22Cute2:47) Valothe cannons strength lies in its ability to provide cover fire. by itself its so easy to dodge, but  throw other enemies into the mix to distract you and it can and will land a hit

I'm not a pro at all when it comes to graphics, but I DO like what I see !!!

I read that you use Game Maker to make your game, that's nice!
Hope you share a link of your game when it'll be done !

I also use Game Maker (Studio, the latest version), to make my games.
Unfortunately, I don't use timelines...

Question: How do you do to make a gif of your game (which software)?

It's looking awesome, keep it up... Trying to code platform slopes is the absolute worst.
