The stantler animation is right, i checked it, i dont knwo what you mean, it is fine
oh and if you are talking about the last 2 frames, those are his ears moving over the antlers

Play means to play the animation once and loop means the animation plays more than once.

but I've seen sheets which say 'play 3 times...'. Makes no sense to me.

Play 3 times is pretty much the same as loop 3 times.
