M&L Styled Whomp - BKWHOPPER - 07-01-2008 I figure that these looked good. They're modeled after the SM64 Whomps. But I need help on the battle sprites. They look pretty suckish. So can someone give tips on there? I circled the 2 I had made to ask you which looked better, but actually I see now that they both look like crap. Lastly, can someone give me a picture of a blank tagbox, or icon, or whatever you call it? You know, this thing: I tried to get rid of the inside image, but that was near impossible So can someone please get a blank for me? RE: M&L Styled Whomp - A.J. Nitro - 07-01-2008 Not bad, but could be better. Where's Star Power's Whomps? Those would've made a good ref. RE: M&L Styled Whomp - Bear Saxaphone - 07-01-2008 Pretty good sprite but doesn't look in style. RE: M&L Styled Whomp - CeeY - 07-01-2008 Ok, FinalYoshi and Starpower, have already made Whomps, FinalYoshi's Whomps look exactly like this one but they are way more detailed, and in style. You can try to submit it but first it needs: Some shading in the body. Could use way more spots, and put a point of light on the gloves. The walking has no movement at all, it looks like the pixels are shifting up but not the shoes. And the body needs to move with it, also need more colors, on the body itself, the mouth is okay, but the body looks like a large rectangle. It needs to be improved a lot! But nice first try! I added more spots, and it looked weird. 3. There IS a light source on the gloves. 4. The body moves to the left and right as it walks. 5. Um, it's grey. It doesn't have much color. 6. A Whomp basically IS a large rectangle. 7. I did use the tutorial. And a little more color would make it fir the style, it needs shading, and proper AA. Look at Finalyoshi's for ref. These are comments to help you. And I even said I like your work. And what I meantby more spots, look at the rock buzzy beetle made by Parakoopa http://www.spriters-resource.com/nintendo/mario/rpg/mlcustoms/display.php?file=mlc_buzzybeetles.png and also about the walking motions, make the whomp come alive, fix how the feet and bidy move. So fix those things and we will see what other things need to be adjusted.CoolYoshi Wrote:Ok, FinalYoshi and Starpower, have already made Whomps, FinalYoshi's Whomps look exactly like this one but they are way more detailed, and in style. I'm only saying this because the feet are outlined in grey... Did you use a pic as a reference? Yes, I did use a pic as a reference. There's a link to it in the first post. But while I do that, can you please animate all of it's walking directions? I don't have GIMP or any other animator[/quote], and I want to see exactly how I messed up with it. Oh yeah, and I still need a blank icon box! Can someone please get me one? Pretty please? OK, so I made 5 different dotting levels. Which one is best? *If you like C, tell me if it should be lighter, darker, etc. RE: M&L Styled Whomp - CeeY - 07-01-2008 No need to, you can see it already, his feet just move and it looks like he gets shorter. FinalYoshi's has no AA, he is supposed to, but at least he has correct animation, and that is supposed to be what yours is. BKWHOPPER, I like how you are working hard right now But it really doesn't look M&L right now, you need to give it major improvements, I can help too. RE: M&L Styled Whomp - BKWHOPPER - 07-01-2008 OK, how can I make the movement look better, and make it look more M&L? And also, these are only overworld...oi, I can't even MAKE a decent Battle sprite. RE: M&L Styled Whomp - CeeY - 07-01-2008 Ok I totally fixed the look of him, now he is in M&L! Use this now RE: M&L Styled Whomp - BKWHOPPER - 07-01-2008 CoolYoshi Wrote:Ok I totally fixed the look of him, now he is in M&L! Use this now Holy...crap. To me, that doesn't exactly look as good. But then again, I'm the n00b here. OK, I'll just edit that form onto the other sprites, I guess. But what about battle sprites? I tried and had an epic phail. RE: M&L Styled Whomp - CeeY - 07-01-2008 Never mind that update put this on your sheet now, And it is way better, I fixed AA, Shading, teeth, colors, and some lineart, for battle use the tutorial.NOW THAT IS A WHOMP! RE: M&L Styled Whomp - Cshad - 07-01-2008 Cool yoshi, honestly, you made it look worse, and juding by the color choice you used and the way you shaded it, you dont know anymore about M&L than this guy, so really, shut up. Now, for the original sprite, you have no depth, or shaidng which is your main problem. The light scource comes from above the sprite, use mario for reference. Now, your tecturing is quite random, try something more simple, as it appears you cant texture quite yet. If you choose instead to pursue it, try looking up tecture bodies to use as refernce for this. Also, be sure to keep a solid (or near black) outline throughout the entire sprite to ensure its more m&L style. If you just beginning, this style isnt for you. The teeth look gradient, instead of using lines, use a trick called aa to mold the teeth to the black. Tecturing doesent need to go on the hands either. I added every little bit of thing that he did not have, to it, It looks like a rock. I know what im talking about, all I did was recolor it! I didn't touch the lineart! So Cshad if you want an arguement, why dont you throw me a PM. Cshad just hates me. Also Cshad your not even nice enough to help so why don't you shut up! But he is right on the bottom, M&L uses lighter colors, but since I improved your shades, fix the lineart. Yes I do know a lot about M&L trust me. |
