I don't really know how to shade faces (or anything bigger than 64x64...) but I think your previous attempt looked better, though I'll agree that the lips look great.

Instead of having the nose be a straight vertical line, lean it to the right.

His eyes are bothering me too, looks like he had a few too much marijuana. But I like his month, chin and ears, great shading on those.
