Phantom 2040 (SNES and Genesis - sort of) - Moniker321 - 07-26-2010 I couldn't believe that there weren't any Phantom 2040 sprites on TSR. Once I cracked open the game in a tile-viewer, I instantly realized why. Phantom 2040's graphics are a total fustercluck. The barely recognizable fragments were just decipherable enough to determine that the palettes I loaded from a savestate were useless. I set about the slow and tedious process of ripping sprites from many, many screenshots. Perhaps one day, someone with hacking abilities, will rip a superior sprite-sheet and make mine obsolete. Until then, I present this humble offering. We could debate which version of Phantom 2040 was better (SNES or Sega Genesis - I grew up playing the SNES version and I prefer that version for several reasons) but let's not go there. As far as the sprites are concerned, the two versions are nearly identical - except that there are a few sprites missing from the Genesis version and the palettes are all different. There are things that I like better about the SNES palettes and things I like better about the Genesis version. So, I ripped sprites from the SNES version and recolored a mirrored set with the Genesis palette. Without an exhaustive comparison, I cannot be sure if the Genesis sprites are completely identical, but it's close enough, eh? (Note: I'll post the Weapons/Items as a separate sheet as soon as it's finished). Ladies, gents and other creatures, I bid you - enjoy! -------------- Edit -------------- Davias expressed concern regarding the lowercase "t" in the "the Phantom" icon. I did deliberate over the icon title. Does it make sense to call the Phantom "The Phantom?" Is "The" part of the character's title? Would the citizens of Metropia cry out, "for gawd's sake! Help me The Phantom!" or, not? I thought no. I went with a lowercase "the;" it was a stylistic choice, but perhaps it was the wrong one. Probably the most sensible solution is simply to call him "Phantom." I've posted some alternate icons, but I leave it to Tonberry2k to decide which looks best. RE: Phantom 2040 (SNES and Genesis - sort of) - Maneko - 07-26-2010 JAWESOME! Jawesome indeed, as I tried to tile rip this game once and yes, it was like watching a MissingNo parade. RE: Phantom 2040 (SNES and Genesis - sort of) - Davy Jones - 07-26-2010 looks good, but I would use a capital "T" for "the".
