[FANGAME][IDEA]Pokemon Action Game (Untitled) - TomGuycott - 09-11-2010 The usual bit where TommyBoycott comes forward with another silly Fangame idea. The Cocoron game idea isn't exactly on the backburner, but that game is such a personal quest that I'm putting a lot more time into the thought process. One night I got more and more ideas for THIS fangame into my head, though, and I just couldn't stop writing about it. There are several things I hope to achieve by doing this project: 1. Develop an adaptable "engine" in Multimedia Fusion 2 that I can apply to future game ideas (like my Cocoron fangame idea). 2. Work in a broad source material I am comfortable with that I'm not as self conscious about so that I am more comfortable sharing results as they come along. 3. Make a halfway decent action-based game based on Pokemon (In this case, inspired by Megaman format TO AN EXTENT). All ideas enclosed are tentative, though I have already begun to test out numerous necessary program events in Multimedia Fusion (baby steps at the moment because of work), and I've started to arrange sprites for one playable character and one playable boss using JoshR's custom sprites (though I doubt I'd want to use them in the end, because I'd feel bad because they are HIS lovechild of spriting, not to mention that he's temporarily on hiatus from doing more, and I've already listed somewhere near 100 total Pokemon I'd want to appear). Anyway, here is my copied document. Lots of it needs polish, but due to certain circumstances I wanted to have additional backup for it, and I figured I might as well get feedback on the conceptual stage of it:
More ideas, really just to keep it in a place where I can access it from multiple places and just in case something happens to my computer randomly, blah blah blah. I swear I'll run out of ideas to write about eventually. This is yet another idea I've come up with, kinda reusing the last concept with a different idea. Basically having a Pokemon action game with a Megaman-like format. We could call it "Pokeman" or something. Really I just made a parallel to the fact that Megaman usually has 8 bosses with extras through different means, and Pokemon has 8 Gym Leaders with extra boss-ish characters mixed in, and I also just reaaally want to see an action-based Pokemon game that is decent, even if I have to make it myself... someday. xD -Multiple playable Pokemon, one chosen from a list at start, the rest unlockable. -Most Pokemon have attacks which allow creatures who are completely immune to certain types to be beatable. -8 stages with a Gym Leader as a boss. Defeating a boss yields a Badge that gives Pokemon a move that would be advantageous against another Gym Leader. The move may not be a type advantage, due to the fact that not every Pokemon can learn a move of every type, but it would be advantageous against the opposing boss' patterns. -Moves earned from Leaders require PP to use (like Megaman's weapons needing ammo). Can be recovered through pickups. -Completion of the standard 8 stages leads to an interim stage against Team Rocket in Silph Co., followed by the "Wily Castle" segment of the game, fighting the Elite Four and Champion. -Different modes of difficulty. While in easier modes Gym Leaders would use only one signature Pokemon (usually), harder modes, in addition to increasing enemy damage and aggressiveness, also gives Gym Leaders more of their lineup. -Evolution would be possible (I'd have to figure out how to do it first, much like a lot of this xD). However, Pokemon would evolve via traditional means, meaning a Pokemon like Charmander would have to "gain experience", which is simply gained through kills, while Pokemon like Pikachu would have to evolve through a stone, which would be hidden in a specific level. To prevent unwanted evolution, an Everstone can also be selected from the menu to prevent evolution. -An additional note on Evolution: Since the game is meant to focus on Generation 1 Pokemon, I have yet to decide whether other evolutions should be allowed. If so, the Pokemon with evolutions stemming into other Gens would be harder to unlock, as well as harder to evolve into future Gen counterparts. -Stages follow a pattern of going from certain Kanto landmarks and routes, eventually leading up to the Gym Leader. For example, Pewter Gym's stage starts you inside Mt Moon, you escape and end up in the Pewter Museum, and then you get out of there and fight through the Gym and finally the Gym Leader. -Stronger trainers serve as minibosses, preventing progression until they are defeated. -Pivotal Pokemon also serve as minibosses, such as Marowak's Ghost, Lickitung (a Pokemon which you could get only one of through a trade), and the Legendary Birds, to name a few. -Rival battles are littered throughout certain stages, as well as the Silph Co. stage. All battles against Blue are mandatory, featuring lower evolutions of Pokemon who are part of his lineup as Champion. -Tentative Reccommended Stage Order (Not taking into account type advantage/disadvantage): Koga - Erika - Giovanni - Surge - Misty - Brock - Blaine - Sabrina -Final stages involve fighting through elaborate stages at the Indigo Plateau, including mini-boss fights against the defeated Gym Leaders, now with stronger Pokemon or altered strategies. For example, Lt Surge fights with a new Electabuzz rather than Raichu, the original boss, and Giovanni, instead of Rhydon, fights using Nidoking and Nidoqueen both at once. -Defeating the Elite Four and the Champion under normal conditions ends the game. If certain conditions are met (Such as fighting hidden mini-bosses in certain stages, like Team Rocket and the Legendary Birds), unlocks an extension of the final levels, leading to a true final battle with Mewtwo. -Mewtwo's first stage ends with rematches against the standard Gym teams, and the second stage is against Mewtwo himself. There are many awards hidden throughout the game, most of which are one-shot achievements that give you a bonus or a simple congratulations when you complete a given task. However, there are also Boss Badges. For each major boss (not limited to Gym Leaders, but also including the Elite Four, Champion and Mewtwo) there are at least three Badges, those being Bronze, Silver and Gold. Common ways to get the Boss Badges is to beat the Boss in a certain time limit, beat the boss using a certain character who has a disadvantage to the boss in question, or something more unique. So far I don't have many ideas for Badges, I just like the idea of including them. I really have to develop the gameplay to see what's harder and easier to do. For now, I'll be doing Badges based on the main boss fights, since they are easier to imagine. More would be thought up later, I hope. Bronze - Defeat Lance with no Ice attacks Blue: Gold - Defeat Umbreon with a Psychic Type. Silver - Defeat Blue without landing a super-effective attack. Bronze - Defeat Blue with an unevolved Pokemon. Eternal Champion - Defeat Blue without getting hit. Mewtwo: (None yet) -I tried to include one of every type as a possibility, in addition to Gen 1 Pokemon that I just thought were really cool. For now I wanted to avoid including the prevos and evos of later generations, but maybe I'd make them an unlockable thing. Another thing I may do is disregard any given Pokemon's actual ability to learn a move and just make them all learn the same moves. -Charmander - Charmeleon - Charizard -Unlocked at Start -Extra - Can wall cling. The battles with Jessie and James are hidden in the game, and while not mandatory to COMPLETE the game, it is mandatory to beat them all four times in order to fight Giovanni at Silph Co. and gain access to the final battles with Mewtwo after the Champion battle. The fights always consist of the same Pokemon and their later evolutions, but their battle behaviors become slightly different every time. Every time the player meets Jessie and James in a new stage, they become harder. When an encounter occurs at a stage where it hasn't happened before, it adds to a counter, so as the player goes on through the game, the battles with them change and are not limited to a particular order. Battle 1: Ekans - Poison Sting, Glare, Dig, Wrap, Iron Tail (H) Koffing - Smog, Tackle, Smokescreen, Poison Gas, Rollout (H) Meowth - Pay Day, Fury Swipes, Tail Whip, Water Pulse, Flamethrower (H) Battle 2: Ekans - Acid, Glare, Bite, Dig, Rock Tomb (H) Koffing - Double Hit, Smog, Assurance, Will-o-wisp, Self Destruct (H) Meowth - Pay Day, Slash, Screech, Seed Bomb, Ice Beam (H) Battle 3: Arbok - Poison Fang, Glare, Giga Drain, Crunch, Seed Bomb (H) Weezing - Sludge, Smog, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Psybeam (H) Meowth - Pay Day, Faint Attack, Mud Slap, Aerial Ace, Shadow Ball (H) Battle 4: Arbok - Gunk Shot, Glare, Mud Bomb, Crunch, Aqua Tail (H) Weezing - Sludge Bomb, Smog, Shadowball, Gyroball, Fire Blast (H) Meowth - Pay Day, Night Slash, Dig, Thunderbolt, Psybeam (H) Silph Co.
