RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - Gors - 09-13-2010

the lines are horribly jagged and it's very, VERY far from being 8-bit

RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - Rosencrantz - 09-13-2010

not 8-bit : (

Look at all the NES sheets and see what's limited and what shouldn't be done

for example: 8-bit sprites only have a maximum of 4 colors including transparency

RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - Vipershark - 09-13-2010

8-bit and simple are not synonymous terms

RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - thernz - 09-13-2010

This little doozy by Adam from not here lists the NES restrictions.

It'd help you if you actually want to make it 8-bit NES style instead of just "simple." On the other hand, the jagged lines and proportions are much more in need of help, imo. His arms don't look to be the right size and seem too stubby compared to the rest of his body. His head is a bit big but that just might be the anime, and I don't understand what is happening with his hair. The shading is pretty flat and inconsistent. It does not try to create meaning and form with its application, it seems to simply exist because it has to. I guess the best shading would be on the pants, but I think the way it curves up on his right (our left) leg implies the wrong shape for it. It's very scribbly overall and could use less loose, concrete and smoother lines.

Simpler Summary:
-8-bit coloring is actually complicated to do.
-The lines are jaggy.
-The anatomy is a problem.
-The lines do not create a good body structure.
-The arms are different sizes.
-The arms are both too short. Arms reach the thighs.
-The shading is inconsistent.
-The shading does not create volume/depth.

Plus layers, so you can add several more colors.
Why does everyone forget this.

While this is very sound advice, if I recall, Maarten doesn't speak English (or at at least not very well), and posts via online translator. I'm not sure if all of that will be understood.

RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - maarten - 09-16-2010

im sorry i have see it guys that this work quite bad is and yes i am very hard with big pixel arts what franscisso and yes grooveman.exe does but i think this thread can be closed the sprites on my sprite thread are very better and its over done in an another style

RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - Gors - 09-16-2010

no

why does people always go 'close this because its bad'? This section exists so you can improve your work.

your sprite does look bad, but you can't simply say 'lock this' and disregard all our C+C. You'll never get better at PA if you do that :I

RE: 8 bit mamoru amani - Cobalt Blue - 09-16-2010

its because marteen, from what he told me on MSN, is used to go to sprite forums where he'd just dump shit and get praised for it. even when its literally just a bunch of useless edits and recolors.

i usually can encourage people to stay, specially because well, we all started doing shit and eventually improved in time, but marteen isnt even close to attemp, to try to improve at all. but this is just so not going anywhere
