try flickr, google images, and deviantart
don't forget to advance search for reasonable sizes.

obviously I've tried that before. But all the sites do require payment, even if they say they are free. The only free ones have about 10 pictures which have bad quality.

(and apparently about half the photos on http://www.everystockphoto.com/ have the CC license as well)
