Okay, I know it's been done before, but hear me out. I want to create my own fanmade version of Chrono Trigger, maybe Chrono Cross or Radical Dreamers afterwards, anyway, the reason I need help is not story-wise but, art-wise, you might be saying "well just ask someone here for the sprites" that part I know, the part i don't know is if I'll need any background in videogames besides being a gamer. So, anyone know, and if so will you please tell me? Thank You.

Protip - Don't make Chrono Trigger fangames. You'll just get a cease and desist letter from Square-Enix. You also need a LOT more than just being a gamer to make a worthwhile game. You need a means to program it, you need to be able to create the graphics, and you need reasonable storytelling skills.
