A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-21-2011 a character I'm working on looking for critique on the coloured one, at the top right RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - x0_000 - 08-21-2011 The round chin conflicts with the angular style the rest of the face has. the bottom part of the ears are also low, there should be line passing through them and the bottom of the nose, roughly speaking. It's coming along well otherwise! RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Gors - 08-21-2011 the way you're shading is kinda weird, you should look for references. I couldn't find a better example than this one, but: notice that there are some spots in the face that receives more light while others don't: those parts are basically things that 'stick out' from the face, such as forehead, cheeks, the nose, a little of the upper lip and a little of the chin. They end up casting shadows in the face itself, such as around the eyes, below the mouth and the area below the cheekbone. The way you have now atm looks a lot like banding, and makes it kinda flat. RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-21-2011 did some updating and whatnot RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Mag - 08-21-2011 It's looking good! Sorta reminds me of Great Destiny man. It's going to look awesome when it's done. RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Clear - 08-21-2011 My only critique/wish is for more contrast, like the sketch on the bottom. But hey, I really like this. RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-23-2011 update more contrast, among other things RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-24-2011 Did a bunch of stuff to his neck, and fixed up a bunch of other tweaking. Should probably work on his ears next? RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - x0_000 - 08-24-2011 The V-shape neck muscles looked better on the previous version in my opinion. The current looks off center (unless the body is slightly turned to the right?) and the one on the right has an inflated look. You probably want to use the old one, but raise it so the V point meets at the right place. RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-24-2011 Another attempt on the neck, tried to straighten it out and whatnot. Also, Finished the ears RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Koopaul - 08-27-2011 Why do I get this Charlton Heston vibe. I can't wait to see more detail on the hair. You are planning on adding more detail to the hair right? RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Chris2Balls [:B] - 08-27-2011 i like this idea! i still think this lacks in terms of facial construction and expression. i decided to work more on those aspects in my edit: i think you should take a closer look at personalities like clint eastwood, who depicts tough, hardboiled characters. abraham lincoln is another, except what you have to take in count is that he's had a hard life which has worn his body. it's very interesting to look at how facial expressions form lines on one's face, especially if one uses a specific expression, thus giving a specific set of lines on the face (somebody who tends to keep their eyebrows raised will eventually, over several decades, get some lines in their forehead, for example). as you can see i've taken eastwood's typical squint, and literally given the hero a stiff upper lip, to allegorize the expression, if you wish. i've set the light source from above to give more gravity to the face. anyway, it's good to see you improve and i hope to see more of this! RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-27-2011 Thanks a lot for the edit, chris, gave me some ideas restructured the face based on c2b's edit and yeah, I'll get around to adding more detail to the hair eventually RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Gors - 08-27-2011 avoid using curves to make the guy more 'fierce'. That chin is a ball atm, either cut it straight or make subtle angular lines like your original outline. RE: A weary, rugged sort of hero - Phantom Killah - 08-27-2011 |
