Stack of minor edits on a blank page - Terminal Devastation - 08-25-2011

I still stand by my joke of comparing scratchwork to that because it works well as proof that anyone can scratch.

Anyways, title explaination aside: I'd like some critique on these:
(They are scratch work)

Instead of that first one I'd like critique on the larger version I entered in that challenge.

(Normally I'd want critique on that first sprite as well, but he actually has a full sheet that I'm using for a competition somewhere, and you guys are so good at this, getting advice on how to fix it would feel like cheating. I'll ask you for advice on him afterwards)

Notes about the others: Chain girl is made up entirely of chains, shackle, and handcuffs (Plus the giant padlock, and hair/wig). So her bust and hip are actually just a chest and hip shackle. Eyes are just painted on.

The last girl wears a clear segemented cape. I'm not sure how to declutter something like that at that size without completely losing the fact its clear.

:/
Either these aren't that interesting or...
Process of elimination time!
Steampunk Armored Stomatopod Hivemind monster Paladin time!

How can I improve it?

Don't make me show a rock golem, or I'll be rather disappointed.

Your sheet is resized.

Sorry about that. Should be fixed now.

It is powered by a boiler? Like an old time train?
It only functions as life-support and enough leg power to support itself.
I'll admit this is my first attempt at something steam punk, so I'm might have not added details it should have to it.

This is all very good, but I'd like to see at least the sources that led to these results, because I personally find it more interesting than the finished sheet.

...
I've no clue how to respond to this. On on hand... I could take the sarcastic route and post a blank page, since the joke is that the most minor edit ever is changing a single pixel, and changing a bunch of pixels on a blank page is scratch spriting. And these are all scratch work.

On the other hand... you might be asking for design influences... in which case, I could only tell you that the purple girl is most heavily influenced by Brain Bomber, Seles Wilder, and a boss in Metroid fusion I can't remember the name of. While the black liquid girl is a take on Charybdis of greek mythology. The Stomapod is just because steampunk and Stomatopods are awesome, and there isn't really too many good aligned and reasonable hivemind types.

On yet another hand, you might have already gotten the joke and are just going alone with it, and then I'd just have to say:"Touche"
And post a link to a rock golem I made from scratch in utter defeat

just for the sake of making some sense out of this, i'd rather just call it a machine rather than label it as steampunk. a couple of exaust pipes doesnt really make for how steam powered machinery works.

Fair enough. Although if I may ask, what would it take to turn this into an actual steampunk armor?

there is no such thing as a steampunk armor.

you might still consider taking some references from the victorian era(although you'd be surprised to knwo armors in the 19th century were pretty much used for aesthetic purposes knowing firearms had enough power to pierce them easily). [hi i am an ugly reference]

that, and a proper study and understanding on how steam powered engineering works, so you'll be able to realise if you could lift and sustain every single one of the mechanisms required to operate such thing. you know miniaturizing wasnt a particular trait of how steam engines were develop -as in the bigger the boiler was, the more energy you could gain from it-

rather than just pretend its a bag of cogs spining and pumping steam out of a tube.

knowing this, you'd take a more logical approach and actually desing the machinery you need first, and then over what you got, desing the chasis and/or protective plates in the aesthetics of the victorian era.

unless of course you can just pretend its a bag of cogs puping out white clouds of steam bullshit.
