Hello there + A problem - BlitzPlum - 10-27-2011

Hey, I've kinda got into the 3D side of things so decided to join this community, I hope I'm welcome!

My problem is that I use 3D Ripper DX to rip models, but when I take a frame in .3DR, nothing appears in 3Ds Max. Also, when I import the .OBJ copy of it, it has no textures. Can anyone help me get the 3DR import to work, or just get the textures to work.

Apologies if this help message has been sent in the past, but I'm rather desperate as I'd love to successfully rip models!

Thanks,
Plum Wink

Of course you're welcome Big Grin .
Which executable are you trying to take a 3D rip of? And are you using the .3DR import plugin supplied on the 3D Ripper DX homepage, which matches your version of 3D Studio Max?
The textures should be located in the "Textures" directory. If not, they weren't ripped.

RE: Hello there + A problem - BlitzPlum - 10-27-2011

I'm ripping models from Dolphin 32-bit, trying TY the Tasmanian Tiger at the moment Big Grin
About the plugin, I found another forum where the question had been asked and it had the same answer. However, when I tried to install it, it said that it failed as there was already a file in the 3DS Max folder. If it helps, I could take a screenshot of the error message when I try to install it?

RE: Hello there + A problem - Friedslick6 - 10-27-2011

Hmm... I don't think I'd be able to help with an error message. But someone else on the forum may be able to.
If there are textures in the "Textures" directory, try relocating them to the same directory as the .OBJ model and see if that fixes them being missing.

btw, your signature is too big.

RE: Hello there + A problem - BlitzPlum - 10-27-2011

I think I tried that, I put all the textures into the Frames folder, but it wouldn't work.
Should I try to take a new frame with all the frames, textures and shaders with the same path?

RE: Hello there + A problem - Friedslick6 - 10-27-2011

I don't think that would make much difference, but you can try that if you want.
Alternatively, you could try modifying the texture paths of the imported .OBJ model through 3D Studio Max's 'Asset Tracking' window, or through the accompanying .MTL file with Notepad.
If it does not have any texture paths, you will have to manually apply each texture or fix .3DR importing for a better chance.
The .3DR import plugin is located under *\plugins\ as "3drimport.dli", with * being the installation directory of 3D Studio Max. Check if it is there.

EDIT: The most compatible .OBJ import plugin for 3D Studio Max is guruware's OBJ Importer, in case you're not using it.

RE: Hello there + A problem - BlitzPlum - 10-27-2011

Thanks a bunch, I'll see if those methods work Smile

RE: Hello there + A problem - Friedslick6 - 10-27-2011

btw, the 'Asset Tracking' window is odd because it only shows texture paths after the scene is saved (At least that's how it works in 3D Studio Max 2011).

RE: Hello there + A problem - BlitzPlum - 10-27-2011

I'm using the 2010 version, I've found the Asset Browser, but no Tracking. Is that just what it's called in the 2010 version?
But I've found TY and his textures, but I don't know how to assign/change path etc. Sorry for pestering but please help! Tongue

EDIT: No worries, I'm exporting the textures as .bmp and assigning them in fragMOTION. It's working great. Thanks ever so much for your help, dude! I'll show off the model soon!

RE: Hello there + A problem - Friedslick6 - 10-27-2011

Yeah, it's called the Asset Browser in 3D Studio Max 2010.

Glad you got something working for you Smile .
