Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 01-28-2012 look, we have a movie thread it really sucks it moves like every thread on TSR with a few notable examples "i just watched x" "i just watched x" "oh x is good i just watched x" there's no discourse or me telling you that your taste in films is abhorrent i/tyvon/gorsal/vipershark/anyone with the balls is going to tell you to watch a movie we like (anyone likes) and we're going to try and talk about what makes it so good first up, i want to tell you about a movie i had the pleasure of seeing on netflix BUNRAKU Bunraku, since you probably don't know what it is, is a type of Japanese puppet theater. Bunraku (the movie) has a unique visual style, influenced by the type of theater it gets it's namesake from . sets, shots, costumes, are all lit, painted and rendered to look like paper backdrops giving the whole movie a wonderful, fantastic visual style. Bunraku takes place in a world where guns are completely outlawed, and as the lead-singer of faith no mores amazing narration skills will tell you "Just as the sword gave way to the gun, so did the gun give way to the sword." starring Josh Hartnett as "The Drifter" a stock, cowboy esque character who brawls with his fists, runs his fingers along the brim of his hat (causing the sound of a whirling revolver cylinder) looking for revenge, something the whole movie is about and Gackt Camui as Yoshi, a swordless samurai, looking to retrieve his clan's treasure ps: watch this movie and tell me what you think of it in this thread RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - Gwen - 01-28-2012 Tangled, ya'll pillow humpin nerds need to watch Disney's best movie since The Little Mermaid. It's a take on the story of Rapunzel with the classic Disney charm of the ol' days and gorgeous animation. Throughout the entire movie I found myself cheering on Rapunzel and Flynn and laughing with them, feeling sad for them in sad moments, and the whole rollercoaster. If you're a fan of Disney's classic era movies and the 90's I urge you to watch Tangled as it bleeds Disney radularness. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - DioShiba - 01-28-2012 I hate the fact they had to change the fucking title of that movie. It should have stayed as Rapunzel. I don't get why they had to change it to tangled anyways. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - Gors - 01-28-2012 Quote:i/tyvon/gorsal/vipershark/anyone with the balls is going to tell you to watch a movie we like (anyone likes) and we're going to try and talk about what makes it so good thats funny because I rarely watch movies The last one I've seen though was Rango. My aunt said it was a very funny movie and I should watch it. I watched it, albeit with several pauses (I can't stand wathing movies in one sit; I usually get up and wander about every 30 minutes), but it was indeed enjoyable. The movie tells a story about that wonky chameleon that had been thron into a desert by accident and then attempts to save the dry town of 'Dirt' from the lack of water. The chameleon is always pretending he's a hero or mimicking others, which make obvious he has no identity of his own. In fact, the movie doesn't even tell you the character's real name, sticking to a pseudonym he adopted to get along with the townsfolk. So the movie gradually shows him who he really is. The movie isn't as funny as my aunt said, but it was good in a piece of art way. Also I love wild west scenarios soooo I may have missed things while doing those breaks or simply by flying over my head, but I suggest giving it a try. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - puggsoy - 02-04-2012 The best Disney movie around is Wall-E. Other fantastic movies include Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, Shrek Forever After (crackup), Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and FAQ About Time Travel. And obviously, the best trilogy ever: Back To The Future. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - Dazz - 02-04-2012 We recently bought the Back to the Future Blu-Ray boxset... It really did give the series justice - it's funny though, because it makes the split-screen camera effects on Marty all the more obvious, but at the same time it does look incredibly impressive for the era. Also, the deleted scenes and stuff are brilliant - some I question why they aren't in the film - while some I can tell exactly why... Seeing the scenes for alternate endings and stuff is weird too. Like the original ending for the first one, where they were going to using a nuclear test site to power the Delorean, and in travelling through time, kill thousands of people by moving the explosion into the middle of the car park... Messed up. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - Gwen - 02-08-2012 I'm watching Bunraku, and I'm liking the story, but the Sets, primarily the streets and nature really bug me for some reason.. EDIT: I guess it just took getting used to, it doesn't bug me so much anymore. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - Orgasmatron - 02-09-2012 godzilla versus the sea monster matango and the daimajin trilogy RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - tsr moderation staff - 02-11-2012 watched this dumb bumraker movie. the sets and fighting were really cool, and i loved the villians, but other than that it didn't have much going for it. also, way too much pink-purple lighting everywhere. RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 02-12-2012 i love bunrakus neon lighting RE: Movies You Should Watch: Bunraku - tsr moderation staff - 02-12-2012 the pink-purple specifically was around for most of the movie, and it really clashed with everything. |
