Not sure if there is anything better than gamemaker. if there is anything better, please suggest.

I think for a platformer, it really doesn't matter that much and you should be fine with GM or Stencyl.

Anything better would probably include learning an entire programming language, so yeah.

You could try out Blitz Max. But that would be if you would take puggsoy's suggestion.

gamemaker's probably your best bet for basic scripting and such.
