Do you think I can learn this? - GMX2000 - 08-12-2012 Hi there, first post. Thanks for looking. I've been interested in game design for a while and I'm a good programmer and musician. However, I'm really terrible at spriting and art. I clearly have no natural-born spriting/art talent, and to this point anything I've tried to do hasn't come out well at all. When I sit down to draw/sprite something, I feel like I have no idea where to start and even when I do I constantly feel like I don't know what to do next. If I manage to get a decent outline, I have no idea how to shade anything. It all turns into a long drawn out trial-and-error, leading to me just giving up in the end. Thing is, I'm currently a part of a two-person game design team, i.e. me and an artist, but he has been very flakey lately. So instead of finding someone else, I'd prefer to just do it myself. My question is, can I realistically expect to learn art and spriting if I put a good deal of effort into it? Or will my lack of natural artistic talent hold me too far back? I've searched a lot of basic tutorials but so far none of them have really sunk in. I haven't looked too much around this site yet but perhaps some tutorials posted here will be helpful. At any rate, I'd still like it if a few people here could give some insight into where it would really be worth my time, anyway. I know I'll probably never be a brilliant artist, but it'd be nice to at least be able to design usable graphics for a game. RE: Do you think I can learn this? - Garamonde - 08-12-2012 Yes, anyone can become good with enough work and determination. Just post a custom sprite you made in the Spriting & Pixel Art forum and we will give you feedback to help you improve it little by little. This way, you'll be able to make something decent before you know it! |
