[WIP] FF6-style sprites - All in one topic - Ishimaru Chiaki - 05-24-2014 Hello, After some commotion on the Toad sprite topic, and after I've been advise to regroup similar works in one topic, I open this new one, so I'm asking a moderator to lock the two previous topic (links just below). Thanks in advance. For an overview of the evolution ... Yoshi : http://www.vg-resource.com/thread-24977.html Toad : http://www.vg-resource.com/thread-25011.html Today's my first day in the week when I actually have free time (the carnival night with my friend was fun !) so I finished grabbing FF6's native colors and so, I edited both sprite sheets to use these colors. I gathered these colors in an XCF file where I can use the color picker tool to grab them when needed. I also fixed Toad's side version issue (the hat was too flat on top and the middle dot was too small). Here are the new version : Yoshi Recolored only ![]() With yellow removed from his boots and some pixel fixes ![]() Shape variant Meanwhile, I tried something in the front and rear ones. Maybe these changes won't be kept or partially kept. ![]() (I worked on a duplicate layer, just in case I don't keep these changes) Color variations Green color palette made from WoB monsters sheet : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25752921/sprites/ff6-palette-monsters-wob.png From this palette, I made some green variants of Yoshi, for both versions : ![]() ![]() First row : Unchanged Second row : Olive palette, lower contrast Third row : A little brighter, higher contrast Fourth row : Same as third row but with lower contrast Other Yoshi colors WARNING : I haven't done the boots recoloring yet ! I'll do it once the color versions chosen ! Now the liteblue ones ![]() ![]() My preference goes for the second color combination The darker blue ones ![]() ![]() With preference for the second color combination The violet ones ![]() ![]() With preference for the second color combination The pink ones ![]() ![]() With preference for the first color combination The red ones ![]() ![]() I definitely prefer the first color combination The orange ones ![]() ![]() It's hard to decide for these ones, both color combination look nice ... The yellow ones ![]() ![]() I definitely prefer the first color combination The white ones ![]() ![]() Last but not least, the black ones ! ![]() ![]() Revamped version, with les bright green I decided to keep the revamped version (visible cheeks in front view + higher thigh gap + slightly slimmer body). So I applied these changes on all front and rear views and I also changed the greens for the one sI selected from what I've shown earlier. His colors are also too rich for FF6. I tested with both versions of Yoshi sprite. As reminder, the green ones : ![]() ![]() I tend to prefer the third color combination WARNING : I haven't done the boots recoloring yet ! After some writing spree lately (unfortunately for you, it's in French), I opened Gimp today to continue to work on my Yoshi sprites. I decided to keep the revamped version (visible cheeks in front view + higher thigh gap + slightly slimmer body).
